The Clio would be my choice hands down (not because I'm bias in anyway towards Renaultsport...!)
Much better handling (providing it's a Cup/FF), quicker, probably cheaper to buy although I'm not clued up on the price of used Fiesta STs, and faster. Interior isn't as nice I'd expect though.

My mate bought an ST over a CS because of the interior. I went inside and I really don't know why it was just as bad as the Clio. Which really isn't that bad, unless your really anal. Yes the trim comes off randomly, the glovebox has a gap in it, you get the odd rattle but that really is me being anal.

I live with it bar putting the trim back on correctly and will get round to the gap and re-painting the dash strips. But of course its a 6 year old car that has been ragged to death.

Yeah they're definitely faster and a little cheaper (although the difference isn't really enough to make too much difference at the moment). However I still find myself leaning towards the ST for some reason?

I test drove a 55 plate with only 16000 miles on the clock, absolutely immaculate car, could easily be new if it wasn't for the mileage. Felt really nice to drive (although compared to a 1998 1.1 106 most cars will!) and seems almost too good to turn down. Obviously not as quick as the CS182, but should be more reliable hopefully, and as I'll be doing 60 miles a day to work may be the more sensible option overall.

But the Clio's just more fun! Tough decision :(

You have to picture the scene - at a set of lights in the ST. Someone in a 182 pulls up next to you. How would you feel?

Odd question. If you'd just finished work, you might feel happy. If you were on your way to a funeral, you might feel sad. If you were just going into town you might not feel anything.

Oh **** I've gayed up Motors even more!
Did someone call?

I'd be like "Should have got the ST 220". Almost everybody gets bored of shopping trolleys when have something bigger :p
Test drove a Fiesta ST today, liked it a lot more than I expected to! Clio 182 or Fiesta ST got harder to decide!
I recommend you get neither the ST or the 182.

ST220 would be far too much on insurance and fuel, so that's a no go. I had considered a Type-R but decided against it as I feel you can get more for your money from the ST or 182 (obviously not as quick though).
How old are you? You live in Surrey so insurance won't exactly be epic, and unless you are doing laps of the M25 the fuel economy difference will be slim between 27 MPG and 38 MPG - over 8000 miles per year it's only about £500 more.

20 at the moment, and I'll be keeping the car in Basingstoke as I'm living back at home for a year, I think it's a B area here (so not too bad) last time I checked. Plus I'll probably be doing closer to 15,000 miles over the year :(.

B area is pretty good in all honesty, and 20 is not an impossible age to insure something like that. I would thoroughly recommend you run the numbers for total cost of ownership on some more impressive vehicles and see if you can deal with the cost difference. If, for example, it work to work out £100 a month more to have an ST200, you may feel that's a price worth paying for a sweet 3.0 V6, 150+ MPH and some nice gadgets.
