***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

i agree that it's an easy win :) and valve should block that place but we'll find other places around the maps and when new vs campaigns will be released there will more "exploits"

Have they fixed the bit in Dead Air where you can jump across the rooftops to avoid the crane/dumpster bit yet?

Indeed. Balancing maps and such isn't something you can do in one sweep; it takes many, many iterations before it can reach something approaching 'fixed'.

If you have played with me since I bought the game then you would have seen the amount I dropped out of games, timeouts, signed out of steam etc. I actually had to stop as I wanted to smash my router into bits. I installed the latest custom frmware a few weeks ago and have had many many problems, and even after increasing my SNR to see if it was my line, i carried on getting the dropouts.

Plugged in my be* box and all is kosher, except for it not being as swift to get me onto servers and lagging me out a bit more.

WIll flash back to older firmware or will try the UBER GT one.

You're the lucky one then :p:D

Yeah i found that increasing the SNR ratio, my line was more unstable and kept loosing sync. Im back on the latest standard firmware right now and all is good except one thing. Whenever my girlfriend turns her pc on, my connection drops. Really annoying when you manage to fill the last slot in a vs game, i drop out and it won't connect unless i restart steam, come back on and all games are full.

I think what valve should do is change the ramp so it is still there, however the sides of it can be broken in some way - much like doors can. After using it earlier on in a game today i wont use it again as, like has been said, it doesnt give the satisfaction of completing it is does when not using it.

At the end of the day it is there though, so if people want to use it then that is their choice.

With regards to the roof jump trick at the crane, i am not sure whether they have fixed it as i have never been able to make the jump yet anyway :p.

Also just to add, myself, rjkoneill and a couple of guys that didnt have OcUK in the name but were friends of his (sorry if you are on the forum) just managed to complete Blood Harvest on Advanced without any replays. Ok it isnt expert but is nice not to have to redo a level over and over for once :) (though would love to do it on expert), was a good laugh, thanks.

Exploit or not, I think it's lame. It's not fun, it's not exciting and I can't imagine how anyone could feel they'd accomplished something when they climb onto the chopper. I've not seen anything here that has changed my thoughts on the matter either. If the survivors do it, then I'll just do exactly what I did tonight: make my position clear and leave. I don't want to spend ages playing a game to have it ruined at the end like that.

Well yeah, nobody is stopping you from leaving. If you stay and put up with it then you are making it worthwhile for the survivors to do it.

By the same token, exploiting a bad level design is just good tactics. It's on valve to address balance issues - it's like saying that boomers puking from rooftops is bad form - if you don't like it, let the people who can fix it know, don't verbally abuse the players.

To be honest what would happen to the exploit if the zombie team just waited until they had a tank got near to where the copper comes down on top of the pad and camp. When it does the other team will have to come out of hiding up the ramp to the copter and the tank can just rush down the ramp meeting them head on. Throw in a hidden boomer ready to puke and a hunter and you could steal the game from them in the last moment no problem.

thats what i said if they planed it.. we would never make to the heli there is 3 tanks on final level of no mercy.. every tank we have to get out from the place and atack the tank at that time other infected could get us one by one and win the round..

Yep! I think hiding under the walkway comes under the same category as this http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=758166

I've never tried this tactic, but i bet it takes the edge off the game:confused:
It's a tactic I've employed in campaign games. Especially on Expert. However, it's not one I'd use in a VS match. Those people who have replied with "the other team can do it too" (do you play this game for fun, or just to reach the end and "win"?) and "wait for the tank" (being an infected is a war of attrition - having two chances to finish off the survivors is a waste of time - especially on an open map like that, with a tank which can be killed in such a short space of time).

What makes it even more ridiculous is that people using this "tactic" complain about VS being too easy on Normal. Get a grip. Like I said, I'll just leave the server if it happens, but at least knowing who it is that relies on such a cheap move makes it easier to decide which games I'll join in the first place.

And DampCat, no need to apologise - we all need to run off at some point. My front doorbell keeps ringing just when I'm about to pounce a stray :D

Dead Air, part of the second (I think) chapter where you come out of the safe room, over a fence and then over a van and up a fire escape...

Well a tank spawned so we set him on fire and ran away, I got 2 the ladder and decided to jump down onto the van instead of take the ladder... and the game attaches me to the wall so I have to be pulled up (into a position my team mates couldn’t get to) which ended in my death... SO ANNOYING!

Fortunately I haven't yet played a game where the survivors have hidden under that ramp, though I know exactly what it is you're talking about because I've read more than one thread about the problem on the official forums. If I do end up playing a versus game where the other team does this, or where my team tries to do it I'll just quit. I've got no time for people playing a game like that, "must win at all costs" mentality.

I don't really see how Valve can fix this sort of thing without fundamentally changing map design - and if we end up losing ramps, etc purely because it is possible for people to stack up under them then I think the game will be "worse" as a result of that change. :(

But I bet you had a little chuckle to yourself....just a little one? Unfortunately, that's the kind of event that sends me into hysterics, whether it's me or a teammate - I jumped off a building yesterday and plummeted to my death :D

A wire fence across the front of the "entrance" and problem solved.

Literally it's a ramp supported with diagonal beams...all they'd have to do is stick two over the entrance and it's sorted.

I still think if half of you hadn't given up by then you could have taken us out when we were rushing to the heli. All you needed was a couple of hunters to pounce, a smoker and a boomer and we'd have been dead.

It's not all about attrition; if the infected can organise a synchronised attack quickly, they can take out all the survivors at once.

Most of the bugs in the game have been patched by now, so hopefully the map design is going to get looked at next.
