***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

If it's too easy for survivors i dont know why they'd hide under the ramp ;)
I think the issue of "it's too easy" stems from people assuming that infected should be "as good as" the survivors. It's difficult to get past the concept that teams can be unevenly matched (class wise) whilst the game is still balanced, and it's hard to get past the usual FPS logic of trying to stay alive as long as possible. With infected as I'm sure you & most people know it's all about the war of attrition, and it's not a big deal if you die several times during a round so long as you've contributed something - in fact if you aren't dying fairly regularly you're probably being counter-productive (except perhaps if you're smoker in a killer spot - pulling people out of windows, etc).

FWIW I think regular Versus is "too easy" for survivors, but that's mainly because I prefer playing infected. A team of survivors that have good communication skills will take little if any damage from the AI, even hordes, and a tightly huddled group will typically mean a lot of hunter pounces that only do a trivial amount of damage.

The above said I'm not so sure simply setting the difficulty to Advanced or Expert (lol) is the answer. I would much prefer to see some parity between rounds - i.e. no additional medpacks outside of the initial saferoom, and both teams receiving the same amount of pills even if they are in different places. Imo an extra medpack is far more destabilising than beefing up the AI or simply making them do a bit extra damage, you can wear someone down to the point where they're on the verge of being incapped only for them to find a magical random medpack somewhere and be back up to almost full health. Currently you can't legislate for that.

I think with a combination of dynamic melee fatigue (i.e. you're fatigued depending on how many infected you knocked away on the last swing - so hitting 1 = same speed as always, hitting 2 or more results in % of additional fatigue, etc) and consistent extra medpacks (or none preferably outside of safehouses & known-location cupboards) it would feel more balanced.

From that screenshot it clearly is not an exploit, it's just a really really defendable location.

The onus is on the developers to judge if it impacts balance and do something about it, and on ALL players to use it until then.

If the enemy use it, you should use it too, unless you want more of a challenge.

Personally I would run in there if my team did, as being alone is suicide.
I wouldn't be the first in there though, as I like the building with the ammo and guns :D

As long as you don't care about spotsmanship and generally being a bit of a *****, good plan.

Is this the thread to ask? Anyone up for a game tonight? As I'm annoyed with so many randoms who just run off or go too slow or don't notice when their team mates are in trouble...I am in the OCUK group btw :)

the could just put more metal under it so you cant get under most of it

plus if you are playing in versus the other team cannot win unless they kill the tank so finding a distance a reasonable way away from them and ocasionally throwing rocks tends to lure them out

I'll be playing a little Vs tonight I think. How about 6pm on:

217.168.150.203:27015
217.168.150.203:27016

I'll make sure the server is on direct connect enable and Vs mode.

+1

There's a lot of things you can do in many games that isn't strictly exploiting but is certainly griefing or just plain poor sportsmanship and this certainly qualifies. It says more about the people that do this than those on the receiving end to be honest.

i should be on at some point tonight, not sure when as being a bit of a taxi service in the SX for my sister :o.

I will be up for either vs or campaign as am starting to quite enjoy vs now :)

I didn't dispute that, I guess I'm arguing the use of the term exploit, which someone already pointed out is just the tomayto tomarto argument.

I won't go under there because it is unsporting, but if my whole team is under there what should I do? Sing and dance til the hunter gets me? :/

Honestly i was just being silly there, but i'm glad I inspired some sensible debate! I can appreciate you suggestions actually, regarding the healthpacks and that... and there are certainly a lot of options to tinker with the balance and challenge without increasing AI damage or hitpoints. It should be fun over the next few months to see what happens :)
