Offical PSP2 (or rather NGP) Thread

I have to admit, the following worries me a bit:

I don't want any of the gimmicky crap, if I did i'd buy a 3DS. What's wrong with just making it a good gaming machine without having to shoehorn in the latest fad?

The sixaxis is needed if they want to port PS3 games purely because the PS3 games has it.

The rear touchpad is awesome if you think about it. No L2 or R2? Who cares, just touch the back.

Was thinking the touch pad on the back would make rhythm games on a portable device worth playing.

The gryoscope/three-axis accelerometer works really well with sniping. Port the arcade version of Sniper onto it and Time Crisis. :)

They're trying to keep apple out the market, and to be honest if they do something like free games with Sony adverts I can see them taking a share of apple consumers.

Also, I don't see how people can call these things gimmicks, they've been implemented to add functionality and sell the product, which has worked well with Nintendo in the past, it's also a very different approach to the 3DS which means Sony are not really considering Nintendo as a main competitor anymore.

I think the 3D on the 3ds is a pure gimmick. What can it actually add to gameplay? where there be games that require 3D to be on to play them? If you turn it off, you double your frame rate.

I bet you where on of these people that said the same thing about the touch pad :p

Remember children when Nintendo does something its a "gimmick", when Sony do something its "OMG how could i live with out it" :p

3d movies is a gimmick nevermind 3d gaming.

I disagree that 3D movies are a gimmick. 3D gaming however, it doesnt overly interest me.

When i say 3D movies, I do hate the fact every single movie coming out now is being given the 3D treatment. But 3DTVs, Sky3D(sport is brilliant) And just 3D in general can be great if its just little touches.

Just occurred to me that I can't wait to see Super Stardust on the NGP with both sitcks and on that OLED. Gonna look sweeeeet.

imo it is a gimmick because the glasses sued for these 3d stuff decreases the colour, contrast and brightness of the movie you are watching. i tried it in various 3d tv's in the shops and also watched the likes of avatar in 3d in the cinema and the glasses just kills the above details i just mentioned.

I really wish 3D would stay in the cinema it takes away more than it adds. I will get a 3DS simply because i'm a gadget freak and have to have one, but I'll wait for the 3DSi or lite or what'ever they call it!

And can wait for a better 3DS to arrive but I must have a NGP now cause Sony got it right first time with this one :)

The first PSP didn't have ported games.

The PSone had L2/R2 buttons.

I'll have to keep an eye on this before making a decision - Sony have shown with the PSP that they can both make a good handheld, and then **** it all up in one clean movement.

The only reason 3D is not as revolutionary as people thought was because you have to wear glasses to actually see it. When you take away the glasses it becomes more a seamless experience.

If you don't innovate you don't progress and these things become stale, I'm always amazed at how Nintendo can push boundaries further and continue to innovate and create fantastic solid products which work really well and shift units by the millions.

Now Sony is what you might have called the traditional company that does things by the book and never really innovates, but I think this is the first time I'm actually starting to think Sony is changing their routine and starting to see what they can do.

Times change, all kid's these days want is an iPod and "apps" so companies have to adapt also. If you give these things a chance you can be surprised rather than being the pessimist.

You know what would be really cool? If you could play PS3 games on the PSP2 and use cloud support to continue your games. That would push gaming above and beyond.

and 3d movies for me are a pain in the ass because I already need glasses to see. Putting 3d glasses over my glasses is annoying. Thats why I always skip 3d movies. Maybe If I had contacts I might be able to enjoy 3d.

Maybe if it didn't give me migranes I might be able to enjoy 3D. :p

But then I doubt it - if a film or game is good i'll damn well enjoy it regardless of if it's in 3D or not.

Mr MGS was talking about this at the unveiling of the NGP. And there are strong rumors of being able to save games to the cloud in 3.60 FW.

They were able to port sections of MGS4 to the NGP in a little over a week so evidently its an option for developers.

Its possible that you could see PS3 games being sold as a "standard" version and a "NGP" version which would include a digital copy of the game which you could download from the disk to your NGP.

On the PSP the L2/R2 buttons are mapped to the analog nub when playing a PS1 game, it is annoying but at least the option is there.
