wait a second button is championship material? if he was he would probably be winning more championships in the next few years but i bet everyone would agree he wont be.
He has never had a car given to him capable of winning a championship, and IF he had a car designed so closely for his preferences as Hamilton has and willbe, surely this year has proven JB is capable of it (sorry Im being stupid, why would you ever admit that)
coulthard was a perfectly good driver and he had some good overtakes but he wasnt a championship winning driver at the time but i bet if he was in f1 now he probably would be faster than most lets not forget he raced at a far more competitive time.
i think comparing button to him is very generous of me.
I already siad Coulthard was a good driver, but there is nothing to say that this year would have been any easier for DC than last year......and he never hit any highlights then
No actually he raced in a much LESS competitive time, when he was in a decent car at McLaren only two teams, and one driver really from each team, was genuinely capable fo winning (without retirements)
How many different teams/winners where there this season - 4 different teams and 6 different drivers (5 of which won multiple times), no way at all you can call that less competitive than the late 90's /early noughties (and unfortunately DC has only got worse since then at a rough guess)
Its very insulting to Button who clearly won a WDC to compare him to someone so recent who was never close to winning one
Top 5
Button
Mark Webber
Vettel
Lewis
Kimi / Rubens
For a number 2 driver I actually think Mark did a huge amount better than Rubens (despite what the final standings say) - and the only reason I put him above Sebastian was because of SV's stupidity in Aus (mainly that anyway). I also think that at its worst Red Bull in general did better than Brawn at its worst , Lewis won more races than those below him and even in a bad car in Aus he drove pretty well (before the team's stupidity). Kimi as usual only turned up for 1/2 the races if that and honourable mention to Massa. Its alos in that order a little just to be different. No -one was close to JB for those first 6 of 7 races, he managed the lead very easily (and while some of it was the car, Rubens was left for dead most of the time) and even in the latter stages of the season bad qualifying positions masked almighty race pace on a fair few occasions
Brawn certainly doesn't think so or he would be snapping him up now. Mind you Brawn never thought so before when ferrari wanted him.
Its not even down to that, its more likely down to money ( ie if Merc wanted to spend the money your factor would come into it Im sure, but the stupid money Kimi seems to be wanting put McLaren off, so it surely put Merc/Brawn off too)
The problem is that when the opportunity to cheat or defend your cheating ways presents itself, they seem to panic and don't plan their excuses/defence.
Maybe they need to employ a team of people specifically employed to come out with a defence or mitigating circumstances, whenever they get caught cheating or lying.
Then you look at issues like Spa-gate when there is no question McLaren should have had nothing to answer for, and they STILL get penalised, its not surprising they panic and act stupidly (let alone when they dont even need to like Aus 09)
Really? i thought he had a distinctly average season.
1. Button
2. Hamilton
3. Barichello
4. Vettel
5. Kimi
Yet you put Kimi above Mark, who had a below average season (or at least put a lot less effort in majority of the time) - not only that MW fought all year with his team leader (or at least percieved team leader) and pretty fairly beat him a couple of times. Kimi did nothing before Massa was incapacitated and then decided to "wake up".
Mark at the very least did an equally good job as Rubens from Championship standings (both team leaders had 120% of 2nd drivers totals) but given Brawn's finishing record vs Red Bulls I think that balances out in MW scoring more points /finish
