***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Hmmm. So I guess that seals it - Button will almost certainly be at McLaren in 2010.

Assuming Ferrari and McLaren both get their act together, Hamilton will have to deal with Alonso while Button will have to deal with Massa. It should be a titanic battle and I really hope that Button is able to mix it with the rest of the front runners and not leave Hamilton to deal with both the Ferraris, which is basically what Heikki did.

Yet you put Kimi above Mark, who had a below average season (or at least put a lot less effort in majority of the time)

Kimi did well with the car he had, where Webber did below well with the car he had. This is not about points. If it's about points then it would just be the championship standings. This is doing the best with the equipment you had and in that respect I think Webber had a distinctly average year.

Dont forget the "mighty" alonso took at least 1/2 season to get used to the McLaren - yet Im sure you will be knocking Button if he even takes a few races to get upto speed

I did state points RELATIVE to the team leader so blatantly not about the total

If Kimi had driven the whole season like he did in the latter stages he could have got a lot more points than the diff between Webber and Vettel

Anyway its a matter of opinion so I will drop it, just seems strange (and I wont even go into Barrichello lol)

Ross Brawn has urged Jenson Button to remain with the team that helped him claim this year's World Championship, despite reports that the Brit has already agreed a deal with McLaren.

Brawn GP have been locked in talk's [sic] with Button's representatives regarding the World Champion's future, with both parties unable to agree on an appropriate salary for the Briton.

The deadlock alerted McLaren to Button's possible availability, with the Woking-based team reportedly wasting know [sic] time in agreeing terms with Button.

Despite these developments Brawn remains confident that Button will stay with the team. "Negotiations [with Button] are continuing and the reports that he has already agreed terms with McLaren are not helpful. I would be amazed if that were the case," Brawn told The Independent newspaper. "His best future is with our team, where he has a good group around him, and there's a lot to be said for that. The logical thing would be for him to stay with us, but of course logic doesn't always prevail," he added.

WOW! The Independent is doing a great job of seizing the mantle of Britain's most illiterate newspaper from the long-term holder, The Grauniad ;)

Both Barrichello and kimi improved their game drastically over the year. Webber imo didn't. He stayed where he started never looked to threaten Vettle, unlike Barrichello who did threaten Button.

So Brawn GP will be left with no top-class driver for 2010? I fear they have just made their first critical mistake...

Mercedes are just like all the other manufacturers which have quit. They don't "get" F1. They think they do but they just don't.

Ross Brawn is starting to make some noise now because he knows he needs a top driver in the team but I fear it's too late.

Autosport have released their (bizarre) top 10 for 2009:

1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Jenson Button
3. Sebastian Vettel
4. Mark Webber
5. Robert Kubica
6. Fernando Alonso
7. Felipe Massa
8. Kimi Raikkonen
9. Rubens Barrichello
10. Nico Rosberg

I don't think Hamilton should be number 1, not with liegate.

No I dont believe Barrichello did, he was never less than 10 points away (so at least one race win) and given Button's finishing record in the points was better than Barrichello's it was more like 2 - 3 races difference

as for Kimi improving - of course he did because he was so **** useless at the start of the season hahaha

to be fair it was in the newspapers this morning that JB had already signed and was just awaiting the announcement

Well, seems like Button has seen the light.

It's obvious he has a very slim shot at retaining his WDC next year, so he's done the smart thing and gone where the sponsors will be lining up to shower him with gold. IIRC I read a rumour somewhere that Vodafone were willing to foot the full £8m bill for his salary should McL sign him?

Anyway, a British dream team is great news :D

Vettle should have had far more points than he got and webber did nothing of great note through out the season. As a season as a whole both kimi and Barrichello did better than webber. Webber was just a good in one of the top cars and never really showed any potential. Doesn't mrsn he's not a good drive, just last year he didn't show it compared o eh people around him.

Still a lot of seats going spare, hopefully now JB and kimi have sorted themselves the others will come in fast.
