***Official 2010 F1 thread***

So you want to only punish the team if every thing's the same, well that's rubbish and not very consistent is it. That's a massive problem for me and why nothing should be done. The past is that past and all that.
They got away with it, give them a clap and a well done for getting away with it and move on. Every team in f1 cheats.

It's good to know that regardless of how this turns out. There'll be people on these forums who foam at the mouth, screaming of how evil Renault, Briatore and Alonso are.

This is Piquet we are talking about, he's bitter about his poor form and he crashed or ran off the road pretty much every race.
This race, he crashed, it worked well for his team mate.

The minute anyone starts believing that Piquet was just crashing to help the team, is the minute they need to commit themselves to the loony bin. :D

I wouldn't worry about it guys. After all, Renault got away with releasing their car in a completely unsafe manner at Hungary. I'm sure they'll shrug this ever-so-slight misunderstanding off with similar ease.

LOL Renault International Assistance LOL

***edit***

Guess it might be a good idea to point out now that I don't really give a toss which way it goes. If they don't dink Renault - yay for consistency. If they do dink Renault - yay for consistency. No matter what they do, someone will still try and twist it around so it's YAEOPFB* so why worry?

* - Yet Another Example Of Pro Ferrari Bias. Thinking of trying this acronym out as a new method for annoying folks on here now I can't call Hamilton The Messi-.....oops, nearly.

Renault likely to throw a fit at this investigation and quit F1 according to The Almighty Satanic Evil That Is Bernie Ecclestone™.

Linky.

"I think it will **** Renault off for a start"

Bernie always has a keen grasp of the bleedin' obvious, doesn't he?

Well you cant punish a driver in a different team

you cant punish a driver who has no direct control over the other car (unless he causes a crash, but thats something else)

It would be a team / team managers choice to ask / force the other car to retire (even if the 1st driver requested it, although maybe the FIA should make it illegal or ban worthy for a driver to request something like this but it doesnt exist at this moment - its acting on team orders as far as I understand not requesting them.....maybe splitting hairs)

Im sorry the past isnt the past - otherwise you are asking for other teams to TRY and get away with similar things, the FIA HAS to stamp out all potential for this malarky if /when its proved, whether its a year ago or 5 years ago by imposing REALLY heavy penalties

Obviously practising for when he drives for Ferrari. ;) :D

Hahahaha

Wow the Ferrari deal was completed that far in advance Alonso wanted to get some serious practice in before actually getting into a Ferrari for real!!!

edit - I tried to be non specific, Im posting about in general whatever team gets caught cheating. Depending on the method of cheating should depend on how heavy the penalty (not being Renault speciific although I do think Briatore is as dodgy as a used car salesman in the East End ;))

So where do you draw the line? How far back?

senna just lost his championships for his dirty tactics too :(
This is a fairly typical quip as expressed by people who seem to get particularly preoccupied with the idea of points, records and the history book.

What is really at issue is whether one or more individuals and teams who have been proven to have cheated should be punished. If proven cheating is ignored, what is there to deter it?

Incidentally, I accept that nothing has been proven in relation to Renault, Alonso, Piquet & Briatore; I very much doubt that anything ever will be.

Equally, I accept that cheating is probably common in F1 as it is in the business world in general. However, if you choose to ignore proven instances of rule breaking, why bother with rules at all?

With refuelling out next year, why is there still a limit to the amount of energy that can be recouped through KERS?

Surely every team will be starting the race with the same amount of energy available to them (through fuel), so removing the restrictions would give the performance advantage to whomever can most efficiently harness and utilise that energy.

Isn't that a better goal with more real-world applications?

'Gentlemens' agreement next year - No KERS in 2010

'Gentlemens' agreement next year - No KERS in 2010

Ferrari have agreed because they have decided to put solar panels on their car for the fly away races which can generate far more energy than KERS ever will, with all the track time they get before the race and on the grid Im sure they could generate enough to be worth it :D

(although sponsors logos etc may look a little strange / ineffectual)
