If this is true which i doubt then all involved should be kicked out of formula 1 and not allowed back!

Different teams, different people, diffrent sponsors, different season.
IMO opinion once a season finishes that should be that. Go ahead and investigate if needed to change future rules. But there should be no come back.

So your saying if they found concrete evidence that say Lewis last year was actually using an illegal system that gave him a second per lap advantage he shouldn't be touched because it was last year?

yes,
what happens if the team doesn't exist? or the team renames like brawn? Or the instigators aren't in the sport any more? Totally different sponsors?

where things change so much. If you aren't under investigation by the end of the season, then that should be that.

consistency is key. it is done and dusted. It should not change this years racing and certainly should n ot change last years results.

And what happens if the team is not the same?
What would you want happen if Nelson was in a diffrent team. Punish that team as well?

As I said I have no problem in investigating it to change future rules. but there should 100% be no punishment. The history books will still say x-cheated in x-race and sponsors will still know and make up there own mind.

Do you believe that if you were to be pulled for drink driving or speeding or both, you would be able to avoid punishment by saying that if you had been killed you couldn't be punished?

It's more like trying to be charged for speeding, when they didn't send the letter out within 28days.

It's not just if they left the sport. How about if people have simply changed teams. It is totally ridiculuse to dig up past championships. How about going back to the 80's or early 90's and start investigating them. Everyone knows everyone cheats as much as possible.where the gentlemens agreement gone.

But we aren't talking about going back 20 or 30 years, we are talking about something that happened less than 12 months ago, involving a team, a driver and a team principal who are still involved in exactly the same capacity as they were at the time of the alleged cheating.

Where you draw the line?
12 months, 24? 240 months?

IMO it should several weeks after the season finishes.

So you want to only punish the team if every thing's the same, well that's rubbish and not very consistent is it. That's a massive problem for me and why nothing should be done. The past is that past and all that.
They got away with it, give them a clap and a well done for getting away with it and move on. Every team in f1 cheats.

Im not sure what Renault / Flav and Symonds hope to gain from the lawsuit though

I understand either way its criminal from the Piquets to do this - but its keeping the "Renault" name in the news for very bad reasons (and if anything just made it even more high profile) - which is only bad news for them / their jobs imo

I cant believe how badly advised Piquet Senior has been in all this , yes its his son thats the main protagonist but Snr is still a big name in the sport and how to ruin your name in 5 minutes after years of dedication - it seems stupid

Doesn't this very much depend on the outcome of whats happened?

If NP is lying then they can show in a court that he has tried to blackmail and devalue Renaults name.

However if NP isn't lying then surly all these law suites are goign to come back to bite FB on the rear??????

I know, I know, I'm late on the bandwagon but..

Renault splits with Briatore, Symonds
Renault F1 has parted company with team boss Flavio Briatore and engineering chief Pat Symonds over the race-fixing allegations made by its former driver Nelson Piquet Jr.

Piquet has accused Briatore and Symonds of asking him to help secure victory for his then team-mate Fernando Alonso in last year’s Singapore Grand Prix by crashing and triggering a safety car period that played perfectly into Alonso’s hands.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Renault said it would not contest that charge when it appears before the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council next Monday.

It added that Briatore and Symonds had now left the team.

“The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix,” the statement said.

“It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore, and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

“Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment.”

Renault had been given a deadline of today to put in its official defence submissions to the FIA ahead of next Monday’s WMSC hearing.

Its decision not to do so appears to amount to an admission that it conspired to cause a deliberate crash for its own competitive benefit – an offence that FIA president Max Mosley said last weekend would be even more serious than cheating or race-fixing because it put human lives at risk.

Mosley said that if Renault were to be found guilty, a severe penalty would be warranted and the World Motor Sport Council could go as far as banning the team from Formula 1 for all time.

“It could be anything up to disqualification,” he said.

“Because that's what's set out in the [International Sporting Code].

“Disqualification means you are out, finished.

“Out. Total. Exclusion forever, gone, finished.

“That is the worst that could happen.”

The race-fixing allegations came to light shortly after Piquet was fired by Renault for failing to hit performance targets.

Only last Friday Renault announced that it, and Briatore, had launched criminal proceedings against Piquet for making “false allegations” and attempting to blackmail the team into retaining him.

Piquet’s three-time world champion father approached Mosley with the allegations after the Hungarian Grand Prix and his 23-year-old son made a statement to the FIA on July 30.

He announced his split from Renault four days later, launching a fierce attack on Briatore – his manager as well as team boss – who he labelled his “executioner”.

After receiving the testimony from Piquet Jr, the FIA launched an investigation into the claims and interviewed Briatore, Symonds and other team members at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Piquet’s statement and key evidence such as telemetry data and radio transmissions were leaked to the media in the lead-up to last weekend’s Monza event.

In an apparent attempt to isolate Briatore, the FIA has offered Symonds immunity from punishment at the WMSC hearing in return for full disclosure of the facts pertaining to the Singapore incident – having promised the same to Piquet before the Brazilian made his statement.

It is not known whether Symonds has taken up the FIA’s offer, nor whether he and Briatore will now appear at the hearing in view of their departure from the team.

So both clearly guilty and Renault will not contest.
With both being sacked and not contesting. Do you really thing they will be banned? I just can't see it. Another huge fine and tight regulations like McLaren.

Roll on the end of the month for the case.

Further consequences for Renault pair
The loss of their jobs may not be the only ramifications faced by Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds after effectively admitting to race-fixing amid the 'crash-gate' scandal.

I think flav pushed Piquet to far, he wasn't likely to get another sea, so he's going at it head first..
