***Official 2010 F1 thread***

I think what is going to happen here is that there will be a "public" punishment and a "private" punishment. The private one will be hardly anything other than a huge slap on the wrist (let's face it the two perps have already left the team!). Then the "public" punishment will be way over the top but it will just be for the PR of trying to keep the sport credible and to make it seem that McLaren weren't treated excessively harsh in 2007.

I can't see this, If found guilty they will have to be punished more than McLaren. Remember the people in McLaren left as well to save the team. The crashing is far worse than what McLaren did.

anything but a bigger punishment, would fuel that FIA are biased and continue to erode the reputation of the sport.

Of course it happens in f1 all the time, Maybe less so now since team orders. But we all know what's happened and what continues to happen. Cheating is part of F1 just don' get caught.

- it committed to paying the costs incurred by the FIA in its investigation; and
- Renault (the parent company, as opposed to Renault F1) committed to making a significant contribution to FIA safety-related projects.

£££££££££££££££££££££££

Not a 100million though I doubt. what a joke..

Indeed - which is why the FIA ruling is acceptable, given the current circumstances.

Not at all. It is more important to be consistent. Under new rules here are loads of teams who wan in next year. They do not need Renault. It is a farce and a big one at that. If found guilty eh team should have been found guilty as well. Just like mclaren, just like BAR

Were all the higher up folks aware of what had been done? Or was it just the FB/PS/NP gang?
It does not matter it has shown many times before the team is responsible, regardless of who actually does it.

There's a lot of "it isn't fair" attitude going about, with what seems like childish calls to bring about the destruction of the team.
Nothing childish about it, we want and the sport needs consistency. I didn't even want them to look into it. But know they have, they should apply a consistent punishment.

Would that really be good for F1? Would it be good for the people employed by them? If possible, ruining the team for good should never be the preferred option...
.

It wouldn't harm the sport. It is very unlikely they would lose their jobs. A buyer would be found and they would have a new name. If that didn't happen one of the teams which didn't get in, would get in. Who would need these people anyway.

now \ mclaren have overcome the weight and balance problems with kers. It would be mad if the majority of the teams did not run it.

I would like to see KERS ran next year but change from 6.6 seconds a lap to something like 100 seconds a race no more than 7 seconds use on a lap (15 laps of use at maximum 7 seconds). That way you wouldn't have cars never being able to be overtaken by a non-KERS car (Fisi vs Kimi @ Spa) and a bit more of a plan as to when to use it. A bit like the boost system used in F2 or what they had in Champ Car.

To bring design back to f1. They should limit the weight and electrical storage. Then allow them to use it anyway they want. Must start on the grid uncharged.

So why is that bad again? Why can't it be generated on the parade lap? That way KERS doesn't lose its point.

how does it lose it's point. That would be ok on parade lap. But I'm tlking about a system that is not power or time limited. Meaning pre charged would be very bad indeed.

Under my idea the energy would still be recovered by energy normally lost through braking but the ECU would restrict its use (as it does now to 6.6secs per lap) but tweak it for another edge to its use. The point is then not lost of the idea of trying to be green but the point of it also to aid the interest on the sport (more overtaking) would be improved in my opinion.

the problem with heavy restriction is there is no design and progression. Within a few seasons the system would be perfect and yet again you might as well hand out a standard unit. We need inivation back and more than just aero dynamics.

But if you do that then the big spending teams will soon have a huge advantage making the sport uninteresting to the average viewer. The average viewer doesn't want to see the return of the Schumacher winning every race by a lap seasons.

It's been worse since all the electronics and design has been banned.
It means smaller teams can't come up with inventive ideas and the only real gains are though extremly expensive aero and wind tunnel testing.

Unfortunately, in his old age, Denis changed his priorities.

 having two great drivers is fine if they get along. But with Alonso threatening to shop the team in and the pair fighting at a detriment to both WDC & WCC it's not surprising one went. They do want two great drivers and I'm sure Hamilton doesn't mind a challenge.

Even when one of his drivers publicly announced that he wanted out of McLaren asap and wanted to drive for Williams, for free, Ron Dennis persuaded him to stay in 1993. And even when Senna moved in 1994, Denis stated that he will do everything he could to get Senna back, by improving the car. Now that is what I call a manager/boss who is prepared to do everything to win, ie. employ the fastest driver, no matter what.

.

And wasn't anything like what alonso and hamilton were like. Was senna threatening to shop the team in. Was there argument having a massive detrimental effect on the championship. Having and publicly wanting to leave is not the same as a full blown war.

Shopping the team was a unique and unusual situation. The problem was that things got very heated during that Hungarian qualifying session. Things were said and done by Hamilton, Alonso and Denis. Unfortunately, rather than rising above it all, Denis also behaved like a spoilt teenager, which all culminated in the record fine which McLaren received.

Oh and Prost and Senna hated eachother with a passion. It got to a point where Prost had no problem taking Senna out of a race and Senna had no problem with taking Prost out. It eventually got to a point where Prost stated that he could no longer work alongside Senna and so left for a team (Ferrari) who had a poor car. Ron Denis did try and keep hold of Prost though.

it is still not the same and does not show Ron Denis changed. When things get that bad, managing is out the window and saving the team comes in.
