Thrown together at the last minute with an arc welder and an angle grinder, like on Scrapheap Challenge.
i heard he made a prototype out of beer matts and got all the smokers to stand infront of the car exhaling smoke so he could see how good the aerodynamics were.
Some people will argue that Hamilton has had it easy as he has been in a McLaren which has made him look good, but I strongly disagree. Hamilton could very easily have gone the route of Grosjean and Piquet JR. He could've fallen apart in 2007, but he hasn't.
Its why these days i try to stay out of F1 threads and let the armchair experts get on with it.
I was under the impression McLaren were vetoing it as they didn't want Red Bull to run with the same engine units they do?
The last thing in the media was that it was between Cosworth and Renault. Mateschitz wasn't particularly positive about Renault after Monza, but I can't see Red Bull going with Cosworth... surely?
I want Red Bull to be very competitive next season and Vettel and Webber to compete for wins - but I REALLY hope RB dont get Merc engines only because to have two thirds of the grid to be split between two different engines makes a mockery imo of having more cars on the grid in the first place
On a related question , when teams select an engine partner do they always get the gearbox supplied as well, Im pretty certain Brawn and FI have the same Merc gearbox as McLaren (Im sure its been mentioned on commentary although I cant remember when), but Im not sure about Renault/ Ferrari /Cosworth /Toyota ?

The gearbox is not something that comes with an engine, an engine supplier only supplies an engine.
FIF1 get a McLaren gearbox as part of their technical partnership with McLaren and Mercedes.
Brawn I believe run and develop their own gearbox.
Agreed, may as well have a single engine format and put the engine out to tender like the tyres I'm half convinced thats what the FIA are working towards anyway.
Although it is better now the teams/manufacturers sell an engine but cannot upgrade themselves. Atleast the specs of the units are the same where as in years gone by you would never expect a customer lump to beat the one in the worst team consistently.
Thanks for the info - I must have imagined Martin saying something about the Merc/McLaren gearbox in the Brawn (Ross over the last weeks thanked McLaren for all their help over the winter....wonder if that was gearbox related)
I think thats correct as they had some early issues to sort to make sure the engine didn't over torque the gearbox.Brawn I believe run and develop their own gearbox.
