How come lando is likeable? His a brilliant driver
He hasn’t been close to winning anything though, so really there is little on the line for him. I’m sure we’d see a change in behaviour if he was fighting for the championship.

He also doesn’t have the contract stress as he’s clearly McLarens best option (rightfully so).

Probably given he won't be up to speed with it. Once up to speed he'd like be an order of magnitude better given how he challenged Max previously in the RB.
The RB is now a very different car to what he drove years ago, let's not forget his abysmal performance in the MCL
I highly highly doubt he will just be dropped into the RB to replace Perez next year

Just British bias. Some Brits did well, so must have better than nearly all the races in the past few years.
Oh come off it. There was some good racing throughout. Norris and Verstappen, even though it was inevitable. When was the last time someone actually got a move done on Max and made it stick for a few laps? Loads of other moves in the field, Russell for example on the softs. Then proper wheel to wheel for a lap or two with Norris and Hamilton for the second podium with only a few laps remaining. Not to mention an engine blowing up, lateish safety car. This race had everything you’d want really, apart from who was in P1.

Silverstone last year was still better :P

I voted 7 because it was an enjoyable British Grand Prix, but not amazing. For me that's a 7 in terms of entertainment.
On Perez, Redbull will need to decide if him doing badly harms the brand. Do they care that much about being 1,2 every week, or will they just let things trickle along nicely where they will pick up Drivers and Constructors with ease. This will happen even if Perez continues his poor form since Max will keep netting so many points. The bonus of keeping Perez is not rocking the boat for in team politics and battles where there is a clear number 1 and 2. It's easier to manage. They could even keep the same driver line up for next season and do the same again.

On Mclaren... I'd like to wait and see. People like to jump the gun from just one good showing from a team. Aston started strong then went away. Merc had one good week and everyone said they were back...not so much now. Ferrari looked strong last time out but not so much around Silverstone.
Mclaren may have just been in the perfect window at Silverstone, but given we had variable conditions and they still were up there, it's looking good.

I don't think they'll have the luxury next season. If Perez is struggling with the dominant car in this fashion... for 30% of the season he's nowhere. As teams close in again... sure they'll probably have the drivers championship won...

however constructors if there's a clear no.2 team that emerges... then picking up p2 and p3 most races while Perez languishes elsewhere will be enough for them to lose out on the constructors, unless he's consistently P4 or better.

They'll stick with him purely not to rock the boat.. but I'd like to see Max have a capable team mate.. if we're going to be stuck watching RBR processions.

Rosberg and Hamilton years were good 2 out of the 3 years because it went to the last race of the season.

The RB of today, it seems, is 'pointy', e.g. a strong front end which Verstappen can live with and others including Perez struggle at times. The McLaren during Ricciardo's stint had a poor front end, even acknowledged by others like Norris and Sainz, and that was Ricciardo's biggest issue. So I think it's a stretch to say Ricciardo would suck in the RB because he sucked in the McLaren, it's quite possible the opposite, we know when given a car he can drive Ricciardo is a very fast competent driver.

I think they'll put him in De Vries car for half this season, and then see how he performs.

Agreed.

when they prioritised Verstappen over whoever was in the second seat.

FTFY.

Pretty sure that happened before Ricciardo left and was one of the reasons for him leaving?

It was. Interestingly he would have been miles better of staying. He wouldn’t have won a championship, which he hasn’t anyway, but he’d have a lot more silverware in his cabinet. It does come at the cost of self respect though.

Yeah. Also I think if he does (and I think he will) join RB as a driver again it will be on definitive number 2 status which is a shame, but he'll get some wins and a pocketful of cash, meh.

Even if not number 2 through strategies etc, the car will always be built around max. Can’t be worse than his current position though.

Possibly because he's had the measure of every driver he's been paired with at McLaren with the possible exception of Sainz but then they were good friends before and have remained so after too.

He's had three teammates. Sainz beat him, DR had a complete disaster, and you could see from his aggressive pass on Piastri at the last race that he's starting to get worried. We'll see how he reacts if, as I expect, Piastri regularly starts getting the better of him.

Didn't he get a massive contract at renault? And then paid a huge chunk by McLaren to not drive... better off depends on in which respect we're talking about :p
