It was and is to prevent everyone running in to the pits for the preferred inter tyre, once the safety car goes in.None of your logic. Getoutahere!
The bit I don’t understand is why they don’t just put the cars on trolleys in the pits and shift them to the right place.
Edit - or send all of the cars out at the same time and reshuffle on track.
Didn’t think about that. Thanks for the post, interestingIt's a transponder/timing line/software issue. F1 has had it for years unfortunately and why they haven't changed it I don't know.
WEC/Lemans can do it (Give/take laps away, adjust timing order) and I could even do it on Karting Transponders a few years ago when I helped run a Karting Centre.
