This will end up as a right **** show you can see it now!

Do safety car laps count? Presume they will. Teams all having used sets with random numbers of laps on them someone will lose track and go over the limit as well.

Between this and half the field running off track it'll take about a week to get the final result.

Well. That's either going to make this race a farce or a classic. Bit weird to pick 18 laps though, when the tyres in the sprint were run for longer than that without problem.

Logan was made to start from the pits, wasn't he? That's another bad problem for Pérez.

The FIAs statement on the matter:

Should make for an interesting evening! Red Bull have also fallen foul of the same rule that caught out Williams in Japan too, reference having too much of a built up 'Spare Car'.

What penalty did Williams incur from the Suzuka incident?

[edit] mandatory pitlane start for the replacement chassis and a 10second penalty to be applied in the race.

Mercedes need to really not screw up this weekend

With how many laps behind the safety car? They didn't do close to 19 racing laps. And they say that there was problems with tyres from the sprint with some starting to show the separation. So that was after 14(?) racing laps?

All fairly sensible precautions from Pirelli and the FIA. Including used tyre life in the calculation as well. Could be we see some 4 stoppers being run due to available tyres.

It's going to royally irritate all the strategists and the simulation guys though. ;) So Ferrari will be ok, their Magic 8 Ball doesn't care about such things.

Someone has done some data shuffling and come up with this for remaining tyre life.

Verstappen good for hards and mediums.

Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren.... Not great...

Could have a mixed up result due to this.

FIA has apparently said the laps under Virtual/Safety Car and the in laps and outlaps do not count towards the 18 laps of tyre life...

Given the in and out laps are usually done at maximum attack, that's kinda strange.

It's all a bit unfair on some drivers to impose this now, after they've used tyres expecting something different. I wonder if anyone will dare use the soft at the end? They were rubbish yesterday but it should be fully rubbered in by the end today.

Kind of enjoying this weekend.

Sprint is a mess with half the laps (almost) behind a safety car

Max wins championship in something that's not a Grand Prix race

Some tyre nonsense that is going to really f-up some teams that have used tyres. Bear in mind laps to the grip and formation lap too.

I think a lot of people forget 3 stops means 4 sets of tyres/stints.

They all seem to have enough for 4 stintson a 57 lap race
