What are Leclerc and Russell going to do (apart from pray for safety cars)? At least 4 pit stops?
Hamilton is in a worse situation that Russell. May have to do a soft stint.

Hell, with several drivers all they need is for the degradation to be a little higher than expected and 4 stops will be needed.

Brand new soft stint might be viable at the end with low fuel for less than 10 laps.

I think soft stints will work well. If everyone is doing 4 stints (3 pit stops) then doing two short soft sprints at the end is likely to work. We saw yesterday the pace advantage softs had and the track is going to rubber in during the race meaning they'll be able to get more life out of the tyres as the race progresses. I'm expecting Hard-Medium-Soft-Soft from Hamilton.

Perez starting from the pit lane too. Almost the same tyre life as Hamilton. Could be another good step towards P2 in the drivers.

Yeh. P2 in the driver's and p2 in the constructors won't be a bad result at all for Merc. In fact probably more than the car deserves!

What penalty did Williams incur from the Suzuka incident?

[edit] mandatory pitlane start for the replacement chassis and a 10second penalty to be applied in the race.

Pérez has been ordered to start from the pitlane but no 10s penalty, not sure what the difference to Logan is.

That's the difference a truly top tier driver can make. This season is really putting paid to the idea the driver doesn't matter. Look at Max/Pérez, Alonso/Stroll, or even Alex/Logan and the difference is stark.

Peak of motorsport... And getting told how many times they need to pit.

I get the safety concerns but just seems very odd suddenly to have tyre issues. Surely just give everyone a proper complement of tyres so everyone has the same amount of softs/mediums/hards.

But give Pirelli a new contract anyway!!! (I doubt there are many other options)

Give Pirelli a call and tell them where they are going wrong and provide some solutions :p

Agree they should just allow the teams and drivers to choose if they want to risk a blow out, tell them 18 laps but don't enforce it with a black flag.

It's also completely unfair to enforce it given the variation of wear that the teams and drivers have, another F1 farce in the making

Merc are mostly just winning on consistency. They have 2 relatively equal drivers and the car's race pace, which seems to be where the focus, has been above average.

If Ferrari were more consistent, McLaren sorted their car out earlier in the season, or Stroll decided to take up Tennis, we'd see a much closer fight for 2nd.
