Could it be that today’s McLaren goes like stink in clean air, but struggles in dirty air 1-1.5 seconds behind another car?

The Mercs were the same during their dominant years IIRC.
Not really sure about that, Lando dropped back at first to preserve his tyres then easily caught Max up again and passed him. I don't know what happened with Oscar's car yet.

Yeh Lando caught and overtook him easily. Seems the car is ok in dirty air as well.

Piastri was just slow today (in comparison to Norris)

The race for WCC is truly on and the WDC is not safe either. It is going to be an exciting end of this season.
I think McLaren will get the constructors but I’m not sure on the drivers. Albeit if my maths is correct if they finish the same as today for the next 10 races they’ll have equal points at the end of the season.. (My maths could be off. lol!)

As an attendee, today was around 8 out of 10. As a spectator I'll agree it was probably slightly less. There were some good battles lower down the order that might not have made the coverage. Equally it was nice to see him win as a Norris fan and I felt like most people were ok with it. It does seem that Verstappen and Norris' friendship is a nod of approval to many Dutch fans.

I will say that Norris' overtake was a little flat in the stands. A smattering of applause and appreciation but very much the second choice to Verstappen (obviously). That being said I felt that the crowd were far more mixed than in '22 when I last went. Far more Brits/Irish/Aussies in the stands, then a general mix of other nationalities scattered about. Lots of papaya mixed in. The orange army whilst out in force were perhaps slightly resigned to the fact they might not see their man on the top step even if turn one gave them hope.

Some interesting conversations with the Dutch today. General theme was that they really dislike Horner and want him gone. One group even said they'd like to see Verstappen in the Merc seat which surprised me.

IMO Horner is the equivalent of Musk for Red Bull, polluting the brand image and not a good look for them at all.

Will be interesting to see what happens to him when Red Bull inevitably lose the constructors championship, they could end up 3rd at this rate. Also think MV has his hands full, one DNF our out of the points finish and he'll be screaming at them down the team radio every race as he watches his 3rd championship disappear.

Yeah, poor race from Piastri. I really like Oscar but he could do with at least finishing P2 to reduce the amount of points Max gets each weekend.

I don't think Piastri did that badly, really. His problem was an inability to overtake Leclerc, so he was stuck at Ferrari pace, but he was quick in clear air. This is still only his second season, he's doing okay.

This doesn't take into account sprint races though does it? Would be something like 4 and then chuck a fastest lap or two in and it goes the other way.

Lando has won twice in ten races. In the same time, Max has won thrice. It'd be lovely to believe there's going to be a championship challenge in the remaining races, but it's just not credible. Norris/McLaren will win some races, they may even close the gap, but they are showing no signs of having the race-to-race consistency and domination required to overturn Max's lead.

The thing RB needs to be sure of the most for Max now is reliability.

A DNF in a race Norris wins will really make it squeaky bum time for Max.
