Rinses away any fuel that might have spilt on the bodywork to minimise the chance of it catching fire off the exhaust

Thanks, I thought it could be something like that.

I love the juxtaposition between these expensive, pinnacle of technology cars and guy with a hose squirting the car to stop a rogue fire.

Would have preferred to see O'Ward win to be honest, especially after Penske's "dodgy behaviour" earlier in the year but a good race and well done Newgarden!
