**Official 3D Mark 11 scores**

Don't see how what he does for a living is relevant.

And show me a game when the 920 at 4.4 isn't enough and will show ANY difference to that one.

You are the one who started this with the comment about 'proper' CPU for the 690...

Not cool man

I don't care either way what PC components are used in this thread. He came from an AMD FX chip coupled with a 690. That chip WILL bottleneck a 690 (My 2500K @ 4.6 bottlenecks my SLI 680's). That is why I said a proper chip. He didn't have a 920, so why is that relevant?

This thread is for benchmarking and what components are used is down to the posters, not me or you.

hehe,

well ive had it for almost 4 years. and considering it keeps up with most things today. yes its slightly annoying when people say (paraphrasing) 'its not a proper cpu for a 690'

regardless. onwards and upwards

I never judge any system in this thread but surely you can see an AMD FX chip is a bad choice for a 690? Your chip is an excellent choice btw and I don't see why you would think I was saying it wasn't?

With BF3, the max my GPU's will hit is 89% and the same with Crysis 2. This makes me think I am bottlenecked. I have no proof but other users are hitting 99% on both GPU's. I am using the 2+2 = 4 method hopefully.

Sorry double post.

yeah im sorry man, i got the wrong end of the stick entirely.

i did think it was strange, sorry bud

let us know how you get on with the new cpu. will be interesting to see!

No probs and easy to do sometimes :)

Edit: (I seem to be doing this far too much lately...Reminds me of someone else :p)

I should point out I am a fan of FSX and it runs horrible in 3 screens even with SLI 680's. This is the main reason for me changing chips. Also my wifes computer is in need of an upgrade, my mobo's sound has gone and needs RMAing and I can't wait weeks for it to be returned and I want to try water cooling for the first time... All these made my mind up for me :)

If not for those things, I would stay with the 2500K and wait for Haswell.

I think Haswell for gaming is not worth the wait. If its 10% more powerful than Ivy Bridge thats not much of an increase.

Im only guessing but I think in a year or two you may start to see games that make better use of Hex core CPUs. long before you see any games that take advantage of any extra performance Haswell has to offer. Im not talking about integrated graphics here.

The reason I say this is if you compare any quad core i7 cpu from any generation there is not a lot of difference in gaming performance.

Agreed totally.

@Gregster, what memory are you using for your move over to X79?

As the 2400mhz kingston quad kits are down to £60 this weekend only, I paid £100 for the same kit a month ago :o

Worth it though :)

This was my original plan but for the price of that memory, I will deffo be getting that.

I am not in need of 16GB and 8GB is plenty :)

Do we need to have a Lucid amnesty??

Matt

I don't think so bud. I did say I would make a section for Lucid MVP but nobody was interested. By all means though, feel free to post your Lucid scores for all to see :)

I personally think with improvements, Lucid will be a very good thing.

Are you going to give it a go on air or are you going to wait for the water blocks.

I wanted to set it up last night, so I stripped all my computer down (I need to RMA my Asrock board also) last night, took of my Gelid Tranquilo cooler and thought I better check it fits first...Looked on google and it isn't compatible with 2011 sockets :( so cleaned all my comp back up and put it all back in for 2 days worth of gaming.

LT: DR

I will be going straight to water. I am pretty confident and will only be shaking when I do a test (Leakage test with only the pump connected).

:D doesnt the zero key work on your kb?:eek:

hehe. I thought the I3 and 7850 was a little lower than you deserved, so I put your name a little lower :D

Well thats proper commitment to you own thread!!

I hope its as good as you think.....

looking forward to following your build on here.

Brgds

Matt

I will be doing a build log in the water cooling thread but will still post a few pics here. I hope delivery will be quicker tomorrow though, as the DPD man turned up with a different parcel 10 mins ago :(

Also, to note (in case anybody thinks it is), I bought the 3930K as I am bottlenecked in some games with 2x680's @ 5760*1080. In BF3 for example, my GPU's will only run to a max of 85%. This isn't so much a problem I couldn't live with but I am a big FSX fan (thanks to Soya's amazing pics) and it runs like a dog with any kind of settings maxed. After investigation, it runs very nicely on the 3930K chip and as I see one for sale in the MM at a fair price, I bought it :)

I set this thread up for comparisons and a bit of banter between forum users. I feel it does that, as when you look at the GPU scores only, most of the time it is like for like but when you look at the "P" scores, there can be massive differences because of CPU's.

Anybody wishing to upgrade can now see what to expect and can ask the person who posted a relevant score questions, which may help.

I think the GPU score is pretty darned good for 2 GPU's on 1 PCB. I will hold off posting that result till you have the score you want posted :) (unless you want that score added of course).
