** Official 680 review thread **

ATI 7970 does seem to have the slight edge when both cards are overclocked, but the NVIDIA card seems to be better optimised in games.

^ From Gibbo.

Let's face it. Dynamic overclocks against a static card are hardly fair are they? The card is overclocking to put out better scores. When we turn the tables and overclock the 7970..

Seems that guy from Georgia was right. They're pretty much level.

What about turbo boost with Intel CPUs? Should that be turned off against other CPUs? No, because its how it comes when you buy it.

Sure compare OCd 680 to OCd 7970 too, but I think it is fair

Just reading through the reviews and it looks like a great card. TBH it's about time NVIDIA did something, the prices are quite ridiculous right now, lets hope the prices come down a little.

I too was not aware of the dynamic overclock, and I think your very correct, when overclocking the 7970 we will see a level performance.

Also with respect to the power consumption, unless you play ahulluva allot then I figure the spin down on the 7970 will essentially mean less power consumption overall. And when I said Watt/hr this is how I'm billed! Are some billed per second ? :D

I'm not a fan boy, and not a gamer, my crossfire is mainly for openCL (compute) and as long as it serves me right, meh really not fussed. I've just installed windows for benchmarks :)

I think raw horse power the 7970 is better but i think in games nvidia will have the edge.

Also finally some multi monitor support :) 3 screens 1 card about time Nvidia

Wait. So you are telling me that a card that overclocks itself to put out higher numbers against a card that does not is fair?

Cards should be judged on performance PER CLOCK imo.

Having one that overclocks itself to skew figures whilst the other one sits at one speed is not a fair comparison.

Any way it doesn't matter. Overclocked the 7970 is faster as well it should be.

If I'm being honest it's just Nvidia's way of sucking in the noobs. They're really awfully good at that.

There is a reason why for the first time in generations NVidia is actually cheaper. They know this card doesnt have the same edge as previous generations in terms of performance. Also. What happened to gtx660/70 matching the 7970?

Now price war will determin who gets my money!!!

Great performing card from Nvidia.

At my resolution (3560x1920) there would be no point moving from my overclocked HD7970 (1125/6600) but its nice to see basically identical performance from the GTX680.

Nvidia finally allowing surround on one card is a good move imo.

One thing is for sure, I am glad I didn't pay normal launch day pricing for my HD7970.

680 is a great card.

Infact no, that's unfair. 680 is a fantastic card.

But, as much as Nvidia want us to forget, so is the 7970.

I don't think it will be hard for AMD to come back with Tenerife and take the lead. And I think if and when they do Kepler 104 is in trouble. I don't think Nvidia have kept anything in the tank like I suspect AMD did.

That's what happens when you get to go first :D

Have any of the reviews started out with the 7970 overclocked?

You know, like fairly?

Basically the 680 is overclocking itself. So it's a bit of a rough comparison if the 7970 is at stock clocks.

Any one know of a review that starts out with the Radeon at 1125?

Just curious to know what's in it when the Radeon is sporting the same kind of boosts.

While I know what your getting at, it is a fair comparison, they both come out the box on given clocks, but this may let you sleep easier knowing you've had it the past 3 months:

The average person who buys this card may not even know it does this, just that it performs better out of the box.

I agree Andy, when the dust settles I think overclocked the 7970 will have the edge and at stock it has plenty of headroom for AMD to come back at Nvidia.

Not taking anything away from Nvidia though, the 680 is a nice card, just a shame most UK retailers aren't taking notice of the RRP, it's basically more expensive than 7970

I agree.

On the face of it, from the OC3D review this feature has had a major benefit at stock, reduced when overclocked. Many of the review sites have avoided/did not have time to go down the route they did, kudos to OC3D.

why are some many people trying to compare 2 entirely different gpus clock for clock

sounds lile AMD fanboys clutching at straws tbh

Uhm, because they both do similar clocks when user set, AND THEY BOTH PERFORM SIMILAR AT SIMILAR CLOCKS.
