I had it on balanced anyhow because my cpu is overclocked and dont want it runnig on full 24/7, ive now set the hard disk to turn off after 30 mins and put the monitor to sleep after 10.
will report back with findings in about 15mins

Might be worth trying a driver reinstall. Hell, maybe even a windows install. Its far from ideal so if thats a big hassle id just leave it. Doing without monitor sleep is no biggie. Just turn the monitor off. :D

nope just did it again :/
gonna keep searching and for the meantime turn the monitor sleep to never.
thanks anyway bud :)
do you think flashing the bios could work?

Yea, that's what's tempting me. Half thinking I should have got a more expensive card if I'm going crossfire, as that'll be £350 on graphics in the last month! Not sure how it weighs up against higher end cards for value (I'm at work so can't browse a lot of benchmark sites).

Anyone going to either a) save me from myself or b) lead me astray?

630w BeQuiet L8 PSU will cover X-fire on these won't it? Coupled with about 6 fans and an i5 4670k.

EDIT: and my 2nd slot goes to 4x when I crossfire. Apparently it only makes a few % performance difference, but that seems pretty counter-intuitive...

Its close to the limit but if its a quality psu then you should be ok. You'll need 700W+ for extreme overclocks on the cpu's+gpu's though.

Yes x4 crossfire is not ideal. You'll lose about 5-10% performance. Some games you won't lose much performance at all though. it varies. What you will find is the x4 gpu sits at 90% usage or lower while the other one is at 99%.

That's not a great impact, I can live with that.

Don't have any intentions to overclock the CPU at present, it's more than adequate so I'll just look to overclock it later in its life.

Now to spend the afternoon agonising with myself whether to spend this!

Do it. I would recommend picking up a cheap second hand mobo/B grade mobo from OCUK that supports x8 x8 crossfire though as soon as you can.

It looks simple, has anyone got to the stage playing with this tool?

I have, super simple to use, been playing about with different voltage/clocks/fan profiles, just use the 925 non boost bios in the op as a starting point.

Sitting on 1000/[email protected] with an aggressive fan profile-if memory serves correctly, I'd have to double check as I've tweaked it that much lol.

Matt wont he have to overclock the cpu for xfire or it will bottleneck and also I've just bought an XFX PRO 850 Psu because everyone was saying a 750W Psu for crossfiring 7950X2.

Well we all know a i5 ain't ideal for multi gpu, it will bottleneck in some titles whether he overclocks or not. I'd recommend a 750psu for crossfire. With the specs im running in sig ive pulled nearly 700W from the wall. However if you run at stock and lower volts i can pull about 350-400W. You made a good choice dont worry. I'd rather have too much than too little. As long as his pc is decent he should be ok, but its cutting it fine imo.

Just ordered one of these to replace my xfx 7950, should be here on Monday.

Just a few questions, do I have to flash the bios? Or will the registry edit to allow 50 be enough?

Also what are safe volts for this card, what kind of clocks should I expect to achieve?

Thanks

I've got my IceQ back now, so a big thumbs up to OCUK, I sent it to them on Monday 9am, and had a new one back at 11am this morning.

Either I'm unlucky or I have a normal sounding card.......but by no means is this as quiet as I thought. could very well be down to the groves on the fan.

Performance wise though, I cant knock it.

Hi everyone,

Got my card this morning, decided that the price point yesterday and lackluster new generation made it a good time to upgrade.

Not the worlds largest upgrade coming from 5850 x2 (that upgrade itch got me!). But the smoother preformance and higher minimum frame rates etc.. makes it all worth it.

Anyhow, had a quick read through the thread today and ran some heaven on a loop for a while.

My new stock clocks... (non boost) - 1070/1500 - 67.6% ASIC

Was it yours that had the whiney fan sound? Both of the ones I have tried in my system have had this sound at 45% fan speed upwards, I think this card/cooler just isn't quite as quiet as it's made out to be! Certainly performs well though! :D

yea it was, there was something wrong with it (must have been as i wasn't charged :) )

I received a brand new sealed unit, and although at high speed the sound is still there, its nowhere near as annoying, I could quite easily set it to 100% 24/7....ok it'll be loud considering ambient noise of a night time is virtually 0, but the other card 50% speed was too much

Well I have settled on my overclock. 1050/1450 @ 1.120v for everyday use to keep temps under 70c, and benching at 1150/1450 @1.194v which can go as high as 80C. Could go higher, but temps are holding me back a bit. Need more fans to shift all that heat!

Besides, I'm at the limit of my cpu for some titles and certainly for most benchmarks. Usage drops to 97% at times so I think any more gpu speed will get wasted. Maybe time to start pushing my 3570k a bit harder than its pedestrian 4.3ghz.
