My gpu's don't have coil whine, but that first test makes mine screech a bit. As long as it doesn't sound like that normally id just ignore it. Could be either psu/mobo/gpu.

Uploading 2 videos to YouTube atm. Will give you a better idea but the 3DMark one really does sound nasty.

EDIT: Yeah I don't think it's the GPU.

3DMark vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsuCMp3fpVI
Bioshock vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCtFL4KBRV0 (A lot less noise)

Terrible video quality but it about the noise :P

Does anyone know how the 'Save BIOS' option works within the HIS iTurbo program?

If I apply my overclock then save the BIOS, can I then flash this onto the card to have those settings be the default?

Hay,
Gave it a try but no go,, its something to do with the CRU. With it uninstalled i have no problem with the video player. The new BIOS made no difference.
Il keep the new one on there. Just ran the kombuster 1080p preset
powerlimit at 30
core voltage at 1100
core clock 1100
mem clock 1450
SCORE: 5690 points, Avg FPS: 95 (60000 ms)
highest temp 46

thanks for the help

Got my card working now, latest motherboard bios did the trick. Thanks for the suggestions guys . Had a quick play of Farcry 3 just to see how the card was doing. Cool and very quiet, however, discovered the IceQ will not fit in the bottom pci-e slot in my Msi P67A-GD65, its fouling the header connections. :( So I will have to put my WF 7950 in the bottom slot as it fits ok. If I read it correctly the His website actually suggests putting the IceQ in the top position for xfire anyway so that's cool. LoL no pun intended. :D. More to come later. :D ;)

Hi guys, card working great on stock bios and temps are fine, idles on desktop at 29c and maxxed at 59c playing Farcry 3. Decided to order an XFX Pro 850 Psu just to be on the safe side before going xfire. Also got Win8Pro to install, not sure how I'm going to proceed with that. I take it I can dual boot with 7? Will also have a go with one of Matts bios and see what happens. Well pleased with this card, but it ain't purty. (pretty for those that don't watch westerns). :D

Ps: Off to work again.

Hehe i knew you'd end up loving it. Remember who cares what a gpu looks like once its inside a computer? Performance is what counts. ;)

VBE7 Tool, Created by darkhmz with the help of (DroiDMester)

Notes about this tool:

Like the other tool it flashes the whole voltage table, so its very card specific for the clocks that you set it up as. Also it changes the checksum when modifing as well, so if you have a blank screen when rebooting you will need to go back and edit your checksum for the bios in order for it to work for you. Cards such as most XFX cards will need the checksum modded and others using newer motherboards which has a form of hash check for the gpu will need it as well. But overall its very simple tool to use. Does not work with 7790 cards at this time.

With this tool you will be able to

Change Vendor ID / Subsystem ID (not recommended)
Change clocks and voltages
Change OverDrive's core clock and memory clock limits, TDP limit, power limit
Make custom fan profile

It looks simple, has anyone got to the stage playing with this tool?
I'm gonna try it out during weekend. :)

EDIT
Forgot about the link...

Hey all i have encountered a problem I'm hoping someone has heard of this before when my screen goes to standby it wont turn back on I'm guessing this is a graphics card problem as its only started happening since i got my 7950.
any help or suggestions would be great :D

Well, I finally have these up and running. Had to get myself a new PSU as it looks like my overclock and the new card were causing instability.
Anyway, just a BIG Thanks for these bios :)

Im sure i posted in here and asked if the bios would work on my card, i have either dreamt it or some posts have been removed lol.

Anyway, i have a HIS HD 7950 IceQ X² BOOST 3072MB. Would this bios work on my card, it's not the standard iceq with the exhaust type cooler. It's the one with the double fan.

currently got it clocked at 1150/1350 @ 80degrees ish under load, ihavnt pushed the memory too far as im not sure if it would gain me many frames at 1080p. Or would it? :)

Depends if the memory timings are the same. I can't guarantee it, but it should work. Take a backup of the original bios before you flash, so if it doesn't work you can switch to the backup bios on switch 2 then reflash the stock bios back to switch 1 if needed.

cheers matt, i think ill give it a go.

Do you thnk i would benefit from dropping the core clock a touch and upping the memory clock, or is it better to have higher core clock?

1125/1500 Will give you slightly faster performance than 7970ghz stock. You'll get more from the core but running the memory at 1500 gives you 7970 bandwidth.

I have had this happen twice to me too and once to my other half when she was on my PC, reinstalled Windows 8 (not just because of this) and problem remained as it happened again this morning.

What BIOS or overclock are you running? I thought it may be a symptom of the lower voltage BIOS I flashed, but I'm unsure...

Did you try the higher idle voltage bios in the OP? 0.950mv? Im on windows 8 and use monitor sleep fine with that one. Though im currently on the 0.850mv bios.

I wonder does turning the screen saver off fix the problem? Just select none then turn the monitor to sleep after 10 minutes. Thats what i use anyway with no problems.

I haven't flashed the bios yet as I'm a bit of a newb and don't quite understand the what it does yet haha.
could it solve the issue?
I didn't have screen saver on anyway and had my monitor set to sleep after 10 mins it just wouldn't respond to mouse movements so never came out of sleep mode.
as a temporary fix I have turned sleep mode off for the time being.
i also looked online for a fix and they recomended going into power options-advanced-PCI express-link state power and put it to maximum which is how i had it anyway.

Just use the balanced mode and turn off hard drives go to sleep after 30 minutes. That's all i do and it works fine. If it still does it on the very stock bios the card comes with then we can rule out a bios issue.

I had it on balanced anyhow because my cpu is overclocked and dont want it runnig on full 24/7, ive now set the hard disk to turn off after 30 mins and put the monitor to sleep after 10.
will report back with findings in about 15mins
