Cant get the bootable usb to work.

I have followed the steps at the start of the guide but cant get it to work. Not to sure why? i follow every step but when i open up the usb it does not look the same. what gives? is there another way to flash the bios?

Anyone have a view? :)

Try an MB bios update, it's a possibility, but as your WF has no problems, I would put the Ice-Q straight into the second slot, join up the CrossFire bridge, reboot and check CCC has the CrossFire option available.

You can try this alternative app to format a keydrive into a USB boot disc:

Bootable_USB_Drive_Creator_Tool

Run the app and point the tool to 'USB Drive Boot Files' then 'MS-DOS', create your boot disc then add ATIflash and the bios .rom of your choice.

yo

Thanks for the reply.
Ok so create a boot usb with the program you just suggested, extract ati flash on to the usb, copy across the rom of my choice and then restart. when the system boots to usb, just type in atiflash -p -f 0 Matt.rom

Have i missed anything? I will let you know how it goes,
thanks again

Noob i wrote a full guide in the OP (see spoiler) or in Post 2. Follow that and you cannot go wrong. :)

But yes what you typed there is correct "atiflash -p -f 0 Matt.rom"

Got my 2nd card set up last night and had a play. TRomb raider at 1440p maxxed at 60fps solid is great! I have yet to do anything with the BIOS, and have minimal overclock going on (1050/1350 at 1.12V) and it runs cooler and quieter than my single card. Wunderbarr!

Sounds promising especially the temps! mine is due for delivery tomorrow it needs to hurry up :D

Got my card working now, latest motherboard bios did the trick. Thanks for the suggestions guys . Had a quick play of Farcry 3 just to see how the card was doing. Cool and very quiet, however, discovered the IceQ will not fit in the bottom pci-e slot in my Msi P67A-GD65, its fouling the header connections. :( So I will have to put my WF 7950 in the bottom slot as it fits ok. If I read it correctly the His website actually suggests putting the IceQ in the top position for xfire anyway so that's cool. LoL no pun intended. :D. More to come later. :D ;)

Works!!

LtMatt - Thanks for the help. I was putting across files that did not need to be on there. Set up the USB to look like yours and it worked a treat.

The only problem now is that my display crashes with certain video players. I tryed to play something off the pcgamer site and the whole screen just turned into a mess. I think that it might be to do with a custom refresh utility that i am using. I have my refresh set to 75hz. Originally before the bios flash i had problems with youtube but i just disabled hardware acceleration and it was fine. This time round the problem is now with a different player.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks again

You could try using one of the BIOS in the OP with a higher default idle voltage? Maybe that will help with this custom refresh thing you use. Try this one and see if it fixes it.

It was the matt.rom one that i used,
I will have a play about and uninstall/reinstall the CRU later and see if i cant fiz the problem.
Thanks for the help - My temps are nice and low,, think i might grab a second card this week and crossfire. I had been trying to work out if it was better to get a new card but £185 for a new 7950 plus the 3 games seems a bargain.
thanks again,

Don't worry! Are you using HDMI? If so your monitor is probably set to AV mode not PC mode, which will be the issue.

The other place you can tweak is in the CCC settings, you want to alter the Overscan/Underscan settings.

Job done :).

Depends how adventurous you want to be...

As a minimum, install the latest Catalyst drivers.

I'd personally recommend what I (and many others in this thread) have done - install Matt's overclocked BIOS, and then see if you can knock the voltage down a little bit using MSI Afterburner. You'll get increased performance at pretty much stock temperatures. That's only if you fancy overclocking of course :).

Installed latest drivers and instead of playing a game decided to run 3DMark Demo. Can anyone tell me if this is normal: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1275972?

Also I heard some pretty terrible noises coming from my PC like screeching. It only stopped at around half way through the demo. Sounded like it was coming from the PSU but it was new last week ( Corsair GS 700W )

My gpu's don't have coil whine, but that first test makes mine screech a bit. As long as it doesn't sound like that normally id just ignore it. Could be either psu/mobo/gpu.
