decto please can you tell me whether your running

Linked
Synched
VTTCPU voltage
NB Voltage
VCORE

or what voltages your running to get a high fsb as im struggling to get above 375mhz and even that failed me a few mins ago!!

Hi,

I was in a similar situation until the Nbridge HSF reseat and AS5.

Currently running
FSB 1556
Vcore 1.6v Bios 1.56v CPUz
Mem Unlinked 800Mhz (In reality it defaults to the 1:1 divider at this speed and runs at ~ 778 Mhz)
CPU VTT 1.35 (not sure this makes a difference but bumped it in case it helps stability)
NB 1.43v
Temps ~71c in core temp.

Same settings used for 1600 FSB
except for NB 1.50 and CPU VTT 1.43
Can't see me running like this for long, just a little Orthos then I'll back it down to a more realistic level.

Edit

Now at 1hr,

Note to self ..... setting the PSU fan to minimum = random shutdown

What NBridge volts are you using?

I had issues above 1.3v until I sorted the nbridge.

Do you have the same issue if you drop the nbridge volts to stock ?

Now once I have a sucessfull post at a setting it will repost/ reboot without issue. Still a pain to get it to accept some settings though.

Hmm,

Only issues I've had have been Northbridge at high temps or FSB and needing to plug in plenty of 12v connectors at stock.

I did find though it really doesn't like linked mode, although this did work far better once I'd done the NB

If you load failsafe defaults from the BIOS and you still have issues the try running memtest86+, you can download an ISO and burn a bootable CD. That will rule out the mem. Next it's Heat, power or a faulty mobo.

What is the rest of your system?

I have loaded the failsafe defaults and it keeps asking me to press F1 to continue or CPU settings changed and need to be saved to cmos ???????
When it finally boot's

E4300

My setup is
E4300
2GB Geil Ultra 6400
7800 GTX 256MB
Enermax 465w (34A +12V)
Thermaltake Big Typhoon

I didn't have any random crashes at stock, only when I started to OC.

Not sure why you have CPU issues when you load defaults, mine just post without fail.

Your PSU looks fine, My system uses approx 180w at stock, 240 OC'd so that should be will within tolerance.

Might be worth shutting down, make sure power off at wall and then firmly push down and wiggle to north bridge hsf to ensure it's fully seated as all my reboot/ post issues improved after the change.

Ok will try tomorrow.

Will report back

My overall conclusion atm is that this board is rubbish. Hopefully a new bios will sort things out.

Problems so far:

1. USB keyboard does not function when fsb is raised.

2. Sometimes will not restart after saving bios changes, requires two or three pushes of the power button.

3. If you push the fsb too far the board finds it difficult to recover if it wont boot. Usually requires a cmos reset and even then sometimes more than one reset.

4. Overclocking very hit and miss atm. Sometimes is will boot and be prime stable but if you reboot again it may not even make it in to windows.

5. According to the bios my C2D 6300 & 4600 have unlocked multipliers. err no they don't and any attempt to change them either up or down results in no boot. Some times when recovering from an overclocking lockup the default multiplier in the current settings section is reported as 26

6: The bottom pci slot doesn't work !!

Currently stuck at 428fsb with a 6300 that can do 3700ghz. I don't know whether it's a bios issue or the limit of the board, cpu vtt & Northbridge voltages seem to be critical and this is with them fully wound up. 1.58 & 1.6v respectively, which frankly are disappointingly low.

Temps aren't the issue as cpu & all chipsets are watercooled.

Well, judging by the forums it looks like the MSI P6N SLI-FI is struggling to get over 400fsb too.
I guess that they both need some BIOS development.

I've already played about with those Nickg. It has to be disabled anyway as i am on watercooling. Did'nt make the slightest difference though. Abit has been worse than useless. Not had an answer from the email i sent them on Friday. No answer on the Abit forum at PCpro. I have had enough now and am cutting my losses with this one. It's going back and i am getting refunded. Just have to save up for a 8800 now and then i will get something like a DS3. At least they work. Thanks for the help.

Abit's official UK support forum is hosted on another set of forums that we're not allowed to mention here as they are supported by OcUK competitors. Abit_Sean was a registered user here too, but he seems to have disappeared off the user lists. He was usually pretty responsive in my experience. do a google on Abit.Care and see what comes up.

Last I heard he was on holiday, but that was last week so maybe he's back. :(

hmm yes i had to do multiple CMOS reset last night via jumpers.

if ound i could change settings - boot into windows play for 10 secs PC FREEZE.

reboot wouldnt POST (stopped at the bit it says EMT64 each time)

i may reseat the NB but its kinda difficult for me to get at now i have my arctic cooler on the cpu.

DECTO- how easy was it to pull the NB off? did it come off okay and how was it getting it back on?

thanks

can somebody recommend me some ram and a cooler

its going in an antec nsk 4400 case which only has a 380w psu

i may change the psu at a later date

would like to overclock to about 2.8 to 3 ghrz

or would i be ok with the standard cooler?

hi

its a long time since i have had to buy ram am i better off getting the fastest speed stuff i can get instead of that ballistix?

That's a really interesting question, because it pretty much defines how memory is marketed.

The stuff that does PC6400 at 4-4-4-12 will probably also do PC5300 at 4-3-3-12, but no guarantees. Stuff that does 3-3-3-8 at PC5300 will almost certainly also do PC6400 at 4-4-4-12, but also no guarantees. I will stick my neck out and say that the Ballistix will do PC6400 at 4-4-4-12 and has a better chance of going higher than the PC6400 kits. For the reasons mentioned above I would stick with Crucial as their RMA depot is in the UK and they genuinely do turn round RMA RAM like for like in 48 hours. I buy about 6-8 sets of DDR2 per month and at the moment I'm buying only PC5300 Ballistix, but I can't say where from as they are a competitor.
