**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Abit IP35 Pro XE

Hi guys, I am building a new system comprising of a IP35 Pro XE, Intel Wolfdale E8400, XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog, OCZ memory plus the usual sata drives etc into an Akasa Zen case.

My problem is, what is the correct polarity of the front panel connectors to the board ? Each connector has a white cable, is that positive or negative ?

From my experience, I think there's a + sign marked where the pins are. Mostly +ve is on the left hand side of the pins -ve on the RHS.

@Update:

Yay, finally flashed my BIOS to v17! I thought I'm going to screw it up. Ah, thank goodness I didn't.

Yea Ive upgraded to 8gb from 4gb (See sig), it worked first time, and I never had to change a thing, didnt even put the cpu back to stock speed, or up the northbridge..

The Pro is a awsome board and its the best board Ive ever had, It evern booted perfectly first time when I built it with everything installed in the board.

im on BIOS 14 at the moment, can anyone with the latest BIOS (17 i guess) tell me whether there is an option to select which PCIe Initialise first??

Please look into the section where you change memory timing, at the bottom of the list, it should say along the lines of "Initialise first" and choose "PCI" or "PCI-e X". on other motherboards, they can select "PEG1" or "PEG2" meaning PCIe slot 1 or slot 2.

i need to set PCIe x4 to be initialise first. and then buy a cheap 8600GT. then my Hackintosh will work. Mac OSX 10.5.6 (latest leopard) doesn't support GTX260 yet, and unplug every time i want to switch OS is ridiculous

btw, 8GB RAM here since Corsair XMS2 drop under £50. zero problem.

OK guys..whenever I go into the intel raid configuration screen(intel matrix screen) my keyboard doesnt work..I've tried I think it's called ps2 connector and a different keyboard.

I've also tried to update bios but keyboard doesnt work at the cursor prompt?

If I go into the main bios I can use keyboard but not on the others as mentioned.

Any help/ideas would be well appreciated. :)

Dose anyone know how to get more power to the Frount USB Ports?
My WD Passport drives keep powering on and off but only when they are pluged into the front.

I called WD and they send me a duel powered USB cable for Free :). but it means I have to use 2 USB ports to power 1 Drive :(
i got a WD 160GB portable drive inside a Omega (odd name, bought from ebay) eSATA case. any of the USB ports can't power on the drive with guaranteed success. that's using 2 USB ports!

i think could be the PSU, benchmarks have said Corsair Hx620w generally have 4.95v instead of full 5v....... or the motherboard?

My volts are ok, and I have a HX620 psu, see sig.

It's very unlikely a Corsair HX620W is giving you a insufficiency of anything. I don't know what benchmark you are referring to, but the HX620W is probably the best PSU on the market. If it won't power something then nothing will.

My CPU is holding me back, 3.2ghz is easy, but above that and not even bumping up the volts helps, so I'm resigned to running 3.2ghz, 8X 400 with a 1.25 multi ram divider or whatever it's called :)

Haven't tweaked the timings, but at these speeds the ram isn't rated for anything better than 5-5-5-15

Do you think you can get a Q6600 to 3.8Ghz with this motherboard ? I am currently at 3.6Ghz
would depend upon your CPU & cooling (particularly PWM).
With normal air I would expect extremely high PWM temps at 3.8GHz on a quad so whilst it might do it I wouldn't advise it for 24/7.

Hi guys, has anyone here done the vDroop mod for this board? I've seen the hard mod but I don't wanna risk my board, hence looking for anyone who's done something like pencil mod? It's just that the vDroop on my motherboard really annoys me. At idle I've got 1.48 and under IBT it goes down to 1.44(very rarely most of the time it's 1.45). Does changing the the version of the BIOS would do any good?

anyone else having trouble with the lan ports on this board?

mine seem flakey and lose connection randomly - i use xp and get message 'a network cable is unplugged'.

i've tried both ports, the second one seemed ok until this morning, so i downloaded latest drivers from realtek, but still have 'unplugging' problem.

more info: abit ip-35 pro xe (with e8400, 4gig OCZ RAM)
xp sp3, all up to date

any help would be much appreciated.
