**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

I'm quite pleased to see a bit of a grind to it, but again, I'm an ex EQ player and found WoW far too simple to progress through the levels. It lost the satisfaction of gaining a level like dinging through the hell levels in Everquest used to.

Im lvl 30 atm and have done a bit of grinding but you can 100% level without doing any grinding at all if you level all gathering skills as you go , do all quests for your level or closest , backtrack a lot , level crafting proffesion/s and do the city quest chains

there isnt a huge amount of quests but its just enough to level without doing any grinding if you do it right

You can also stick a coin or something between your D and F key so you just stand there spinning and not get kicked off :)

Or you can log off and stop adding more to the queues?

Everyone complaining about the queues, but no one is willing to make the queues quicker. Boggling, some peoples logic on here.

You can bypass the 30 minute afk timer by doing the boogie or shaking your ass...do a dance... or any other continuous emote.

NCSoft's decision to limit AFK shops last Friday proved successful with relativly short queues, and that was release day! Now that the weekend has come and gone, I thought the now longer queues (around 2 to 3 hours max) were down to more people receiving their retail copies through post and activating their game to actually start playing. Turns out I was wrong.

I guess a lot of people are playing much much more in these early launch weeks than they will do at any time afterwards. As we are still newly launched I imagine a lot of people are trying to play every single night, whereas after 4 weeks of release they will drop to their "normal" play rate.

I always find it surprising when I read how busy it is during the day, surely most people are at school or work, yet I often read its busy during the day. Must be a whole lot of people who have taken these early days off/or are skiving :)

thing is if they still allowed the afk shops it would be even worse..

Very true

Now what they need to do is auto kick anyone who hasnt moved x distance in 30 mins. Might help with those people who are jumping on the spot or whatever methods they are using to bypass logout timers.

Thats because generally speaking people are inherently selfish. They only care about themselves, whine that they cant log in because of queues, but expect other people to logout so they can get in whilst at the same time refusing to do that themselves for other people.

I think I'll wait also a bit to really start playing this game. I work and do not have a lot of free time for gaming, yesterday I was queueing and needed something like 20min to log on and suddenly the game simply quit alone. I was on the couch, was really odd. I'm in no rush to play anyway.. lots of other stuff around these days :)

i believe the queue system isnt a problem in korea as they pay for the actual time spent ingame and not on a fixed montly fee.. personally i wouldnt want that system ... however i think in time the queue problems will change for the better ..

a lot of Korean players play from bangs (like internet cafes) as well rather than from home. Should also be mentioned that the Korean players arent still in their release playing frenzy so less people are playing at any one time, they also have over 40 servers, some of which are now half empty all the time because so many were added early on (Warhammer syndrome I like to think of it as). Thats something I am glad they are trying to avoid with the western release.

Still stuck in the middle with Aion at the moment. One part of me thinks, "oh god, I've actually bought a Korean grindfest", but the other part of me is desperate to reserve judgement until I experience some PvP action.

Level 16 at the moment. 9 more levels to go I guess!

If it helps, its a lot less grindy than early Daoc or EQ was :) , but its more grindy in terms of levels than some newer MMOs. I like the grinding, makes people group, which in turn makes people interact, which in turn promotes the kind of community that I havent seen since Daoc :D

You can get some pvp in another 4 levels though instead of 9 if you get involved with rifting zones (either on attack or defence) :)

I agree, while quests still make up most of the leveling in the early levels you do have to kill a few extra mobs.

I don't really mind because grinding is faster in groups so it does make people group, unlike other games where you can solo to top level faster than in a group.

I am 19 now, I think once above 20 we can group in the abyss, kill stuff and players and get xp from both. Sounds good.

I've only grouped once and that was to do a quick quest which took 5 minutes. Been on my own the rest of the time. :( Right enough I did just join a legion. Members seem pretty friendly so I might ask if they want to give group grinding a wee go.

What characters have you all rolled btw? I'm interested in how the other classes play.

I've been grouped almost nonstop since about level 3 :)

I've played them all during beta, but for release I rolled a Cleric and a Gladiator.
