**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

ergh!! This is seriously getting annoying now, I dont crash as much in populated areas IF i do shift+f12, But now i have a even more annoying problem! Now EVERYTIME i die, It totally crashes my PC, Completely. And this is going to become a big problem the later on in the game i get..

been reading on aionsource people saying that XP 32bit fixes the problem, But i dont want to have to lose half my memory and have to flaff about with my SSD to work properly, Plus i only have 64 bit availible.

Might have to install 64bit and see if that works, As my brother is running a 4870 with 4gb ram on xp 64bit and hasnt crashes once yet..

I am running a 4890 with 4gb on Windows 7 RC 64bit and have had to give the game a break till they sort this out as my crashes happen too regular now I am in the more popular zones :(

gutted cause I love this game....

Its a big problem aswell, a lot of people are effected by this. Its not so bad at the moment as i dont die that much when im grinding, But if this isnt fixed by end game then i dunno if i can even play! I mean turning off all character models during fight?! How stupid is that, Just running around fighting names.. And then when i die i crash, Amazing!

Guys whats the jest on Aion? Currently playing WOW, but loads of me guild have vanished to get on with real life, and thinking of picking it up, it worth it?

its an MMo heavily based on PvP and grinding, thankfully ive never played WoW so cant comment with regards to similarities.

Aion is a very polished game, lots to do and a great combat system but its not everyones cup of tea.

i have about 3-4 alts on the go and the suprising thing is every class is fun to play, it can be a hard choice to pick one.

so far its kept me away from my lifetime sub to Lotro which i havent booted up since Aions release!

Essentially, if you like fast levelling, lots of instances, raiding, pve, arena pvp, high solo ability, questing then stick with WoW.

If you like slow levelling like older mmos (think early daoc) , few instances, very little raiding, lots of pvp, open pvp where you will get attacked while levelling, keep sieges, less soloing and more required grouping, a mix of questing and grinding (or camping as it used to be called in daoc) then try Aion.

PCGamer mage came today with a review of aion and they gave it 60%.
Basically main gripes are that its very grindy takes ages to lvl up and that the game gives you all this nice scenery but you cant explore it.

About fair i'd say, it is grindy, i dont think the graphics are actually very good, and it all feels very, very, very linear. Coming from lotro it is no where near as good in the pve department, and if its all about pvp, why do i have to grind to 50? Why cant you rush me there in 2 weeks max?

Crikey...60%?

Seems a bit of a heavy handed score reduction because the reviewer doesnt like grinding.

You could say the same of Daoc though, thats widely regarded as one of the best PvP mmos ever, yet that took months to get to 50 too.

I'm looking to join a legion on Spatalos, up and coming cleric. I've seen the OcUK legion but haven't been able to get an invite. Cleric is called Calpurnia.

Heard a few moaning about the PC review.

Seriously.... WTF...

Grindy ?

I know I said this before but WHAT GRIND? Stinks of a company catering to western whining when you have ppl lvl capping in 2/3 weeks after release tbh. PCG have no Idea what grinding is if they think Aion is a Grind lol

ive just started to play Aion tonight and i love it,brillaint so far loads to do ,very polished game i can see my spending a fair bit of time playing this.

Has it improved from Beta? i tried it for 2-3 days, not long i admit, but it didnt grab my interest for some reason, which is odd as the place i work, a lot of the staff play it and love it.

Grinding, bring it on, anyone else play MIR? the xp to the next level was the total amount of xp it took to get to the level you were, so aye, i dont mind grinding. PvP was hardcore, you die, lose xp and items drop on the floor. Made interesting games.

But it still didnt grab me, maybe it was the 400+ people in the starting area and having to wait for things to reappear? And im playing ona laptop not built for games!

So, has it got better?

I know, I cant entirely understand it myself.

I mean, I dont get to play as much as many gamers, due to work and family. (I wish I could play more of course though :D ). Yet even in my limited play time I have got my main to level 27 so far. There are many here of course who are higher. Hardly what I would call a massive grind or slow levelling. Though I guess it does partly come down to your MMO history, if a player has played MMOs for a decade then they will be familiar with the "old" style of levelling and wont be too phased by it. Generally speaking though, those who are only used to the "modern" MMOs will expect much more rapid levelling, usually with almost non-stop quests and the ability to solo pretty much all the way to max. So perhaps they might be more phased by this style of levelling.

Either way even with my limited play time, I have already done over 50% of the levels and the 1st month isnt up yet. Cant understand why people want to hit max level so quickly in MMOs.

My first level 50 in Daoc took something like 6 or 7 months if I recall correctly. It was almost a year in UO before I reached 7xGM status (basically maxing the character).

That aspect has certainly got significantly better because of course the starting areas are nowhere near as full now that most people have moved on to later areas.

However..given that the game didnt grab you before, I would suggest either thinking hard about why it didnt grab you..or waiting for a trial so that you can assess better whether it will grab you now without you having to actually spend money on it. Better to be safe than sorry.

I must admit i'm not sure I will keep on playing this game. I used to be hooked on WoW and quit at the start of this year, so thought this game would be right up my alley

Turns out I don't think it is, i'm only level 19 at the moment and maybe the game gets better later on, but right now I really can't be bothered to log on and put the effort in to get my character up to scratch. It just doesn't seem to grab me

The few times i've grouped with people they have decided it would be a nice time to go pull some mobs while I have no mana or anything so I die, and I have to pay lots of money for my level just to get my XP back and lose that stupid 1 min debuff you get.

These are some of the reasons I am not a big fan:

1) Gold sellers aplenty
2) Chat channels literally spammed with stuff it's insane (see point 1 also)
3) Crashes in the cities all the time despite having a nice spec PC (i7 6GB RAM 4870x2)
4) Windows don't remember positions at all so you have to keep moving them around (for example when you open the brokers window it always defaults to the middle of the page, inventory windows etc)
5) Inability to post more than 9 items up for sale at any one time and you have to visit the broker to get the payments
6) Sometimes same level mobs seem quite tough compared to you, can take a lot time to kill just one and that one mob can take a lot of health/mana to kill. Sometimes the balance feels right however
7) Mobs spawn so fast they can spawn right on top of you if you're not careful
8) REALLY annoying voice acting and music, I have to turn them both off so I don't go insane, if you do an attack move they will use the same voices etc over and over and over. better to not include voices at all and not have that music that changes tempo/style whenever you attack.

Other flaws for me are just the way the game is designed, I actually preferred WoW's quest/grinding system to be honest, at least in that you could level up to max level solo pretty easily if you wanted, and had the option to group. From all accounts later on in the game you have to group up more to be successful and i'd rather not have the hassle.

I'm sure other people will enjoy this game, and it is quite well polished overall with some nice touches in the design, so for me any downsides may just come from comparing WoW to this, and WoW has been out many years now. I am not ever going back to WoW though :P

The big problem Aion has got is all the AAA MMO's recently that have come out with the same easy, friendly to the mass's levelling curve.

Those from EQ, DAoC and earlier games are used to it but a lot of people aren't.

This is true, but then I never had a problem with grinding if it's fun, but so far I have not really enjoyed the killing aspects of this game :P

I think you right for certain class's. I have a SM as my main and tbh I find it a but tedious, I have a low level Ranger alt which is much more fun.

I also think the spacing of the spells you are granted is a bit far apart, I would rather have one or 2 a level that 6-7 every 3 levels. It give you something else to grind for.
