**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

The problem isnt the grind, the problem is that some people just have way less integrity. I have to level the same as everyone else, yet i dont bot. Thousands of other players on every server level without botting. So whats the difference between them and botters, they dont have a different grind so that cant be the difference. Must be that they have more integrity, know whats right and wrong and dont do it.

Another example of this is that mmos like daoc, eq and to a degree uo all had much worse grinds than aion, but not the botting problem. No, i dont think its the grind thats the problem... Its the players that are the problem, the players and their new gimme gimme now now for minimum effort attitude

well wow did something special, And that was making MMO's a mass market product, Back in DoAC and UO days you had more of the 'hardcore' players that enjoyed the grinds but now you have little kids and people who back in those days were prolly playing on there playstation or fps games.

At the end of the day they want to make as much money as possible, So trying to make a mass market product is the smartest bussiness model right?

Its a good business model for making as much money as possible. However, players should realize that not every MMO is going to be the same. Some will be more "hardcore" in their playstyle. Not everyone is going to like Aion, not everyone is going to like WW2 Online, not everyone is going to like EvE Online.

Gamers should accept an MMO for what it is and if they dont like the design of the MMO just move on/back to the one they do like rather than try to alter the MMO to suit their tastes. Ok, so an MMO has a "grind" (if you can call Aion a grind compared to Daoc), if you dont like the grind and arent enjoying the game..you just dont play. You dont "cheat"...surely thats common sense? Have we as a people becoming so lax on rights and wrongs that its ok to just throw away any kind of integrity? How is it that thousands on thousands of players seem to be able to level up perfectly normally without resorting to botting , yet others bot. Not a problem with the game, a problem with the person imo. Why the rush? Why the need for now, now. Impatience? ADHD? Are these the sorts of people who insisted that their GM make them level 20 straight away and give them a Vorpal Blade of Destruction +20 in AD&D?

Someone on this board , a long time ago, said something which I entirely agree with. They said .. "The wrong kind of people are playing MMOs today". IMO, the MMO genre would have stayed much better (in terms of quality and playerbase standards) if it had remained as a niche genre back in the days of UO/EQ/Daoc etc. Whilst I appreciate the influence WoW had on spreading the genre, I also acknowledge that by doing so and making it mainstream it also did a hell of a lot of damage indirectly to the genre. Totally Agree, i see people asking for things like more instance pvp etc, Just dont understand why if they want aion to be like wow/war, why not just play them? Why try and make all MMO's the same?? Aion is what it is, If you dont want a more oldschool mmo then there are plently of new sytle mmo's out that would fit there needs more.

Also i think people just burn out playing mmo's, So find it hard to play any other mmo after, Doesnt matter how good/bad it is. They just think its the game and dont realise its them.

Absolutely agree. If someone wants WoW..then play WoW for goodness sake !

Surely its a better "shop" if its got 12 different varieties of chocolate bar than just 1 bar in a different wrapper 12 times? Sure..you might not like the Almond Mars Bar, but at least its another choice.

Quite like the sigs.

I presume from the sigs posted so far no one else can get the image changed for your char on uk.aiononline.com?

I don't mind MMO's that have grinds! Legend of Mir and Lineage 2 were my first MMORPG's so im kinda used to it, but it just feels like you have acomplished more if you grind up to the top if that makes sense?!

Hit 25 last night - so far no grind whatsoever, unless you count killing mobs for quests 'grinding', we shall see if this holds true until 50, although I heard it doesn't.

On the Kalil server incase anyone else is and wants to group or something. Name: Kyubi

Abyss day today!

Aye, going to try the free week they have for old accounts and then decide If I can handle the lack of full faction PvP.

Sorry to derail the main thread, but do you know when the next one will be? I always liked LOTRO but I've been playing a lot of WoW recently. I always enjoyed the charm of LOTRO and would love to go back again and see what it is like now.

As for Aion, I had a look at it and it seems a little too Eastern for me. I really love PvP and that aspect might be great, but I played Lineage II for a while and this just reminds me of that.

Me and my bro went to the abyss at 25 to see whats up, And try and find alittle pvp. My advice would be to either group with like 3-4 people minimum or come back higher lvl, Because on my server atleast most people looking for some pvp are 30+ and will slap you about! Altho we did get to kill a couple of people, Are conclusion was to just carry on lvling alittle before we came back.

That training grounds instance is great tho, You get loads of XP in there and have a CHANCE to get a weapon.

Just my opinion tho, You could go there and have a whale of a time, Altho i would say thats prolly not going to happen! :p

To me as an old school Pen & Paper gamer the journey of levelling was part of the fun. When characters got to max level or became ridiculously skilled then as a DM I'd usually start another campaign.

A lot of MMO players seem to have an 'end of game is actually the start of the game' mentality.

Forget the large worlds, NPCs, quests, random world PVP, etc those things are seen as inconviences on the road towards the start of the 'game proper'.

I do think MMO designers need to stop focusing on WoW as the be all and end all. As somebody above said, not every confectionary bar needs to be made the same.

Surely one way of competing with the Behemoth of Western MMOs is to target a portion of its audiance and focus on doing that bit better than WoW (and differently)?

i have a question please if someone could answer?

Every time i load aion up and input my account details i have to accept the user agreement every time? , is this correct or is there a way to only accept it the once

I think it's correct due to legal requirements over the EULA.

What do you mean that you are attacking with WSAD?

Which class are you?

Have you been buying your skills from your trainer as you have been levelling or are you still using just your starting skills?

what i mean when i click on a enemy target i then press either the W S A D key as the manual states while in combat green arrows appear near your character the key you press grant your character a attiribute boast

so forward increases attack so that would be the W key
Backward Increases block and parry so that would be the S key

i also just click on the target to attack also

i then also press i think rage skill in my taskbar to also attack, i just dont understand the whole attacking thing im obvioulsy being thick here i just dont get it?

Im a warrior class and have bought 2 manuals cant remember which ones now i remember double clicking them to activate.

Just need some basic help on attacking really as i keep dying after fighting the dukai or when i do kill one im nearly dead myself.

Did that today with a group, my first real bit of instance tanking, was fun. Got a nice drop of the blue sheild from the last boss as well which I picked up, lucky.

Hit 28 today, looking for some new quests, I seem to be running out.

I wouldnt worry too much about the movement buffs, I have never bothered with them on my gladiator.

Not really too sure what to suggest, in the early stages its just a case of standing toe to toe and spamming the skill which lowers their defense and the first strike skill. (icon which has a sword on it). By level 5 you should have bought skill books at lvl 2 and lvl 4

Did you put those new skillls on your bars? It doesnt automaticly do it for you. The new skills will have a border going around them.
