Finally got it installed! 11.5GB from Steam servers took... well, lets just say "a while"!

Game is great so far, only level 5 but I love the stuff I've seen like the ability to click the blue links of names and locations in quest information and it'll show you a little map or where it is. Also love that it seems monsters give the same experience regardless of your level, as when I was level 1 monsters were giving me 148 XP and at level 4 they were giving me the same amount. Collecting items from a plant was interesting - some kinda failure bar there and my success bar sometimes crits (?) and I get lots of extra green on the sucess bar.

Couple of downsides that I'm gutted aren't there - such as there appears to be no buffer zone on a spell cast (like in other games such as Warcraft and LOTRO if you start casting a spell on a target in range and they move out of range you might still get the spell off as there is a buffer). Also had to alt+tab and googling some things as they aren't really explained at my level, such as I typed /afk and it shoved me into "Busy" mode, but when I retyped /afk when I came back it didn't seem to cancel it and just re-iterated that I was in "Busy" mode.

Grinding doesn't seem too bad, although if I hear my Priest say "Caaaaabrero!" one more time I might scream :P

Still trying to decide whether to go Chanter or Cleric. I hear Cleric's are kinda overplayed since it's the only real healing class, but they are in high demand as healers always are - but Chanter I find more appealing, but don't want to be stuck unable to get a group if they aren't needed.

Good so far though, better than I was expecting :D

Answers :D :

1. The buffer zone, thats coming in next patch and has been acknowledged, just when the next patch will land who knows but its live in Korea (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I know its definately on the test servers at least).

2. Yes I have got to agree, that is hugely annoying I've learnt to filter it out, but it would be nice to turn it off.

I'm levelling a sorc at the moment (alt) and they put out some serious damage, especially with your "hero" ability I one shotted a bear for 1400 dmg (level 18) which (I think anyway) is huge for my level.
 
So, I decided to take the plunge.. However:

I just bought Aion, and am currently downloading it on Steam. Ive made my NCSoft account, but when I go through the process of adding Aion it is trying to take a months fee from me?

I bought this game on the understanding that it came with 30 free days playtime, as it says on the steam store - Why is it asking me for payment again? Even if I select to use Game Time Code's, it is asking me to input the code now?

If I go for the Maestro route, it tells me in no uncertain terms: "You have selected the 60 days billing plan. You will be billed immediately in the amount of £17.99."..

EDIT: As a side note, I will soon be getting on the game either way.. Are there a group of OcUK'ers on any server in particular?

When I bought mine (was prior to release) it did the same thing. I havent been billed yet though, and my account now says that my first payment is the 1st of Nov.
 
Ah cheers.. So if I put in the Maestro option (£18) it wont take that £18 out for 30 more days?

Christ, its actually depressing how much I have to worry at the moment over £18.. When will my bloody student loan come? :(

Just took the plunge with the Maestro option - Got charged straight away.. Not entirely sure who to talk to, but guessing NCSoft.. Great.
 
can someone tell me is it normal to get some characters which you kill have boxes appear over them with random text ? its literally like tzxcf frtyfh djddi?
 
Well after the initial honeymoon period most of my legion has unsubbed and quit Aion.

The grind has become too much at 30+ it's very tedious, there are a lot of things that Ncsoft need to realize, one is that europeans are not like asians when it comes to mmo's.

Same but kinda more not having time :) but yeah the grind problem I thought should have been fixed through the betas but it`s still a solid MMO just the leveling gets in the way. I also felt I saw everything the game had to offer at low level after doing the forts/abyss/dungeons since there really isnt anything that new at the level cap just different versions of them

Now, do I get a couple of hours in now and risk getting annoyed/not experiencing it to the full because Im bit tired.. Or wait, accidently miss my lectures tomorrow and have a proper session? :D
 
dinged 29 this morning, but have been pvping all day lol. just hit Soldier Rank 6, and pvpin with a templar friend of mine is awesome. Great fun is ripping our way through elyos after elyos, then all of them coming together as one unit, running away and starting over. Sad though that i'm finished with NTC, man that place was great =(

This is normal as your character doesn't speak the other races language. Only way to speak to the other race elyos/asmo is via private shop.

(same thing with some mobs, expect you can't use a private shop to talk to them ofc :D)

What is NTC? :p I'm lvl26 so just wondering hehe

Still enjoying the game, granted I don't play THAT much, only a few hours a day. Thing is a good mate of mine is playing a cleric and I'm a templar is making a group for instances of stuff is really not hard. I've been really loving the crafting system, procced me an awesome blue shield (Worthy Noble Titanium Shield) a few days ago, pondered selling it for 300-400k but then I though I should keep it for me since I'm a tank and my mate got me that Life sword which is nice to go with it :)

The grind has been hitting us a bit lately, but it was not that bad, the only thing annoying is its way better to grind solo than to duo grind with cleric templar imo :/

Only thing I can't seem to get my head around in this game is the money system it just seems like hyper inflation. Could they not have just took the price of everything, and the money you gain from quests/monsters/vendor trash etc and just divided by 10? 3,500,000 for some white vendor item at level 48 just seems crazy.

NTC is the lvl 25-28 instanced "dungeon" in the Abyss, the xp in there is very very good indeed.

Maybe the money in the world of Aion is like Italy, where £1000 is £2.1 million Lira :D
