***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Panos, didn't mean to create lots of extra work for you. Maybe 3-4 screenshots with a basic explanation. Your name sounds greek and you develop software. Do you work for Aventurine? (wild guess)

Yes I am Greek, but I do not work for Aventurine in Greece. I live at NE Lincolnshire either way.
(came here for a weekend, and here I am more than 10y now :D).

Is not the extra time. But we, the software devs, do suck on writing user friendly manuals. :D
However I do apologise, since there aren't any normal "users" here, where they will get "lost" on the first technical term. (yep happens no matter the age or gender)

I will see what can be done over the next few days though :D

Good holiday there! :)

Look forward to the end product!

It's exactly the same on both machines Alex. It's very, very confusing. I'm having trouble downloading anything at the moment as we've basically rented BTFON for a month @ £39 because Plusnet are a bunch of snails.

"Thanks for ordering Plusnet fibre optic broadband ! you can choose between November the 16th, 17th or 18th for your connection date.."

*presses 16th*

"Your confirmation email will arrive with you shortly"

*Reads emails...*

"Thanks for ordering Plusnet fibre optic broadband ! your connection date is December the 3rd"..

To say we are seething is an enormous understatement. What chaps my butt the most is we even paid the line rental up front for a year (£200) and the £80 connection charge.

GRR.

All old telephony based BT landline outfits at some stage use BT. Always had 'issues' when having them (plusnet, talktalk, etc) so looking back my NTL/Virgin line although had it's own issues was infinitely better than the landline services for broadband.

Hope you get it sorted sooner Andy - I would keep ringing them up and complaining till it's sorted!

I don't often do it but I praised Talktalk the last time I moved from my own house to a temporary (read 18 months and counting) rented house. Talktalk maintained the line until midnight the day before I moved and it was at my new phone number and address from midday the day I moved, the next day.

Speeds are not too bad for an up to 12mbit service, I get about 10mbit on my wireless link.

Sorry to hear all this Andy. I have BT infinity and a Virgin 100 MBps fibre line to the house. The BT infinity is free as my wife works for them. It is nowhere near as good as virgin in terms of speed and stability though. The latter is only really decent if you ditch the Virgin router. I have an Asus RT N56-U with it and it works very solidly now.

I am baffled.

Installed the new WHQL Catalyst, and thought lets clear out the system and see what the CCC overdrive can do on this version.

So with a clean "slate" (wiped BIOS and turned off AMD OD), I put the CCC Overdrive to find my CPU speed.

Yes 5100 (5125 effective)!!!! Without having changed volts or anything else.
The funny bit, is that is running way cooler as when was working 5193 or 5520 with the AMD Overdrive. I tested it with IBT, AMD Benchmark and Prime95. And passed.

According to CoreTemp & CPU-Z (1.67-1) it fluctuates all way to 1.50v when it hits high speed, however is running pretty cool with max temp 50C on Prime95, and on normal usage at high 20s- low 30s

On the contrary using "normal" OC from BIOS or AMD Overdrive, at normal usage at 5193 for example, was hitting 35-40 and 58C on Prime or IBT (after the 5 second spike to 65-68). Idles are same 19-20C.

I set it there, and going to forget about it. 400mhz more will not make much different on the grand scale either way, if the cpu is running that cool and stable.

Just started OCing my 8320 (20x220) @4.4gh, having problems, firstly the voltage (which I haven't touched) is running at 1.440v (fluctuates a bit) and the temps after 20 mins so far using prime95 is 51' C according to speedfans...does this seem ok..?

What motherboard are you using?

Don't use Prime 95. 5 runs in LinX will do.

Are you doing some sort of auto overclock? 1.44v is high for 4.4GHz. 50C in Prime is nothing to worry about in itself though.

That's done the trick mate thanks!

Just seems to be plaguing me with problems, now it doesn't recognise the drive, even though the tray still goes in and out, so have power, and still plugged in at both ends if SATA, and my wireless card has also stopped working!
