***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Can't get it working @ 5.5 and thats what i really wanted i feel so let down with this chip :P

For me the biggest let down is the motherboard. Worked fine for 2 1/2 years with the T1090, but putting the FX8350 became temperamental.

And the problem is that I do not know if I can put the rev 3 bios. Seems setting HPC to ON fixes the issue with the UD3 motherboards. (I have rev 1 and there is no such option even with ctrl+f1). :(

Sorry for the double post, just saw Andy's post. Sorry to hear about the cable. Hope your system is ok and you get it sorted.

Thanks matey. Yes it seems to be sorted now and I've got it rock solid stable. Have been benching it hard all day, so soon I can collate the data from the other rig into this lot and put up a comparison thread.

The Asus board for £59 has actually surpassed the Asrock. Now obviously it has its drawbacks (hacking SLI for example to run on X16 X4) but the extra CPU oomph may just prove to be more important ;)

Thread coming soon lads, clock on !!

Asus VRMs are the best, that's why I'd always say just get Asus for AMD Piledriver.

It's paying off atm.

I finally have the Alienware online which touch wood means I can bring the benchmarks to a conclusion today and then start uploading data and numbers :)

I just need to get BF4 and C3 on it then take it offline.

My case is too small and not ideally suited for a radiator. I have found 'new' OEM lian Li PC-A10B's for £30 free post on a well known site. I will gut it and mod it to suit. Thats how cheap I am :) I also love ally cases.

Btw, seems all my volts problems are gone with the UD3.
Flashed it again yesterday with F10A bios (had done so back in January with the T1090) and selected to clear the DMI data.

Now it seems stable without fluctuating the voltage every time I cold restart the PC :D
And that was fluctuating my max speed around ~3500 while the overclock was 5193.
(Had to cold boot 3-4 times to get the correct stock volt in the BIOS).

Going to see over the rest of the week if I can push now to 5.3-5.5.

Also the temps are stuck at the correct ~19-20C while idling. Not 0C :D
While full load using IBT or Prime95 is still 48C with the 3-5 second spike to 58C still there, until the H100 kicks the pump at full speed.

Nice work Panos. 5.5 GHz

Andy look forward to seeing your results too.

Could have tried tonight, but Steam downloads the "Enemy Within". I do not want to stop it by accident :D

Wow - ace clock there panos, have you benched on Cinebench and updated the thread?

:)

What BIOS settings you focusing on to get stability, or is this all done with the overdrive software?

FFS Crysis 3 is giving me serious headaches. I've no idea why but it's beginning to look like I'm not going to get any accurate results out of it. It may be that I'm running the very latest drivers on both cards which were obviously released for BF4, no idea, but the game is running like rubbish.

Even my old rig with the Asrock in @ 4.2ghz with 670 SLI beats both rigs no matter what the clocks.

Powerrrrrrr (voltage)

I have high FSB to keep the system fast, have lowered the HT to 2600 (shooting at 2900 almost is silly)

And yes from the overdrive. I do not touch the BIOS again. Too unstable.
I only managed to play with it a bit. Even if I have BE CPU it complains when I hit 24.5x-25x multi. So FSB was raised to 230 and lowered the RAM to 6.66x. Got 5520 at 1.53v and temps are pretty cool also (tops 51C) Only had little time to run IBT and 2 minutes the AMD stability test before I go to sleep (was 12am)

See how it goes today.

What's wrong with it Andy? Are you getting stuttering? Is it ok in single card mode?

I tried to use the more detailed overdrive software but beyond changing multiplier, voltages and a couple of other settings all the sliders were greyed out for me. Could not change FSB, HT frequency.

Panos, if you ever have time it would be great to make a noddy's guide to how you use overdrive properly with some screenshots in a sort of step by step fashion. It could also include what you do in bios initially to prep the system etc. I think all of us would find that really useful as it is clearly impressive software but feels slightly alien to us lot used to bios overclocking.

I have the H100 cooler. Is this keeping it fine around 5Ghz then?

Alex - it's just running like utter turd. 29 FPS mins and stuff. What's really messed up is this is the same level I benched before on 670 SLI with 4.2ghz and got mins of 49.

If you have some pretty good fans that provide enough air pressure and airflow, yes.

Mine is at around 52C full load atm with 4 Enermax Magma. (and they are quiet).

As for the guide, I will see what can be done. Because you ask a software developer right now, to write a manual. :o

Have you tired reinstalling your GPU drivers, reseating the GPUs/SLI bridge etc? Something could have got knocked a bit during the move. Are the cards boosting correctly? Power connectors in ok? Temps ok?

Panos, didn't mean to create lots of extra work for you. Maybe 3-4 screenshots with a basic explanation. Your name sounds greek and you develop software. Do you work for Aventurine? (wild guess)
