***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

That is the throttling point.
Most folks have observed throttling starts in the low 70's reported socket temp.

Ok cool, so what do guys suggest doing with these settings:

18 x multi
260 FSB
1385Mhz Ram
2340 CPU/NB
2340 HT

Vcore 1.4375
CPU/NB 1.275
CPU VDDA 2.575
DRAM 1.65
NB 1.150

Knock the vcore down? How about the other voltage figures? I don't really know much about them

Trying to get P95 stable on AIR at 4.8 is really hard.
Your not really running the prime tests at 4.8 anyway if the CPU clock keeps dropping.

Did you solve the RAM issues ?
Weird you cant run the RAM at stock settings.

Have you tried swapping between the black and blue slots ?

try ram at 1.6 mines at 1.55

rest look ok

mine are 22.5x multi
215 fsb
1680 mhz ram
2500 cpu/nb
2500 ht

may not work for u as every cpu different but i would say defo raise multi lower fsb i found anything over 230 fsb wasn't good for me temp wise

Yeh god knows what's up with the RAM, to be fair I can't say for 100% whether that was the problem, but I played BF3 for about an hour earlier with no repeat of the problems at 1333Mhz.

To be honest I'm not that fussed if I leave it at 1333, will i really notice the difference?

i had akasa venom medusa cpu cooler one of best i'd say at i would always hit 70+ plus at that high of a clock m8, water is way forward! whats your setting for llc?

i was told cpu/nb llc second one down in advanced tab should be on regular for air not high

i struggled so much on air and thought water wasn't much better but after setting my loop up properly you gain so much.

2 ways to go water or settle for less on air, 4.6ghz was where i was happy with temps on air.

remember your never gonna hit temps that prime chucks out so use aida64 see if its stable then run bf3 for few hours if all runs ok you good to . i only use prime to check volages are ok

Oh and it's under water, well closed loop anyway

already posted my post below by time i see you were on closed loop which one? as the 120 ones are much worse than high end air tbh i found.

they say for every component to have 120 rad plus 1 for head room so 240 minimum for the overclock ur aiming for, if you have a 120mm one for example antec khuler 620 then it'll run ok at stock or small overclock. But once fluid is hot in that small loop the rad will struggle to remove the heat quick enough. you need a bigger surface area rad ;)

my venom air cooler actually out performed the antec khuler 920 i had and it cost a lot less

H80 so yeh 120mm Rad. Couldn't fit a 240mm in without hacking the case to bits so best i could do really

external rad? a idea perhaps tbh i found that the perform worse than air, has it got stock fans?

could try push pull with say typhoons or sp 120's but i doubt it would make a huge difference

also i posted here way back at beginning that placement of rad helps a lot, is yours on exhaust as all the hot air gets pulled through rad adding to the heat.

if you have top fan and your cooler on rear try having cooler blow in and top fan exhaust least rad gets cold air that way.
you will get sluightly negative pressure causing tad more dust but may help temps, so to recap

have front, rear, side, and bottom as intake top as exhaust as heat rise anyways. cool air coming through rad is a must, ifound exhaust on rad gave increase of temps

Just turned the fans and pump to full speed . . FPU test was 10° cooler!!

So yeh, new fans needed i think! Some great suggestions there mate, having the rad take air in and exhaust out the top is a great idea.

goes to show its your cooling and yeah having rad on intake makes a lot of difference i found. whats point of sucking hot air from in case into rad, only gonna add to heat which is complete oposite to what u want :D
