***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

^ It might be that with the high CPU overclock combined with the GPU overclock things were getting too hot. If your CPU is fully stable so far now it'd be worth pushing it up a bit more before you start overclocking the GPU again.

Quite possibly yes. I've been working on case airflow too to help things. Just a pain that the H80 sits right on top of one of the boards heatsinks and no way to push air onto it.

Currently CPU is hitting 53° on the core after a good couple of hours gaming, with the H80 set on it's lowest.

Sounds like no problem for the CPU. Probably just the GPU overheating. On your board I probably wouldn't expect 4.8GHz+ to be fully stable, but 4.6GHz or so will still give great performance in everything.

You've only just bought that board! :p

Is it within the 2 week return period?

Yeh probably, but nah I'm happy with it really, certainly whilst I'm running a single 7850 I have more than enough grunt from 4.6Ghz.

I still find myself browsing different boards and bigger cases though so don't need any more temptation thanks :D

Did it drop by much? I thought that would be a good price for the crosshair formula.

EDIT - Ahh yes £20 that's not bad but its a serious price for a mobo!

High end boards tend not to be under £100 :)

I think you should return your board and get a higher end one if you can. You obviously want to!

Nah, would be poor 'value' for me right now. Of course I always want the best of everything, but that ain't happening at the moment :D

This board will do me just fine, spending more money on another board just so I can get an extra 0.2Ghz gets me what? Nothing other than some higher benchmarks and maybe a few FPS.

Sitting pretty at 8 cores of 4.6ghz for £200 of mobo & chip is damn good value in my book.

/takes sensible hat off and starts looking at the sabertooth again :D
