***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

evening all so got home at 5 trying for 5ghz got 4.9 ghz prime stable 1hr stable no voltage increase from 4.8ghz @ 1.44v and look at these temps

1 hr stable so far cool and not so quiet lol i think i have a rare gem in this chip will continue to test but making progress

before you say that aida64 aint been running 1 hr i ran prime first went 1 hr, mor than enough people say 24 ect but if prime is gonna fail it will take less than 24hrs im now running aida64 just to see.
i will run as many tests as possible

Evening, great temps there! must be able to get quite a bit more out of it.

Is it CPU temps that's the problem? I'd expect your VRMs are struggling - a spot fan on the VRM heatsink might help if so.

iv thought about a spot fan. not sure its the vrm, the HS doesnt feel too hot.. northbridge is flippin roasting though!

i can boot and use windows at 5ghz but a few seconds into a test, like cinebench, i get a beep.. which i think is the cpu temp alarm.. and then the system locks up

Hmm have you got the northbridge under water?

I'm gonna have to order a case that would accommodate the H100 (2x120mm fans).

North bridge not under water as vrm heatsink is linked to nkrth bridge heatsink via a pipe was thinking of cut pipe so I can remove and replace north bridge with water block? Unless anyone knows of a vrm north bridge water block

After looking at my friend google he tells me a lot of people have cut the pipe connecting vrm and North bridge heatsink, and the fitted a waterblock to the north bridge.

Now where did I leave that hacksaw? May try this tomorrow as im gonna buy a new board soon, nothing to loose.

Could you add a small fan to it instead and see how much extra cooling helps?

I don't like the sound of cutting heatpipes :) It'd be best to upgrade the board from the 990FX EVO to the Sabertooth or Crosshair.

The main issue with very high overclocks on Piledriver, assuming it's not the CPU overheating, is the board. The mosfets especially need to stay cool, but the power phases need to be up to it too, which you can't do much about without a higher end board.

A fan may help ;) but being a mechanic tinkering is in the blood nothing to loose gonna order new board thursday, because 5ghz no go system boots to windows and just switches straight off :(

Which board would you guys sugest sabertooth or formula z. People see to say sabertooth r2 over formula z any reason as to why? Always thought rog board was better

damn you farmerboy!! now im pricing up a new board!! :D

Lol sorry dude thats all this thread seems to have done tbf. Making you all tgink of upgrades my bad! Lol

Been working loads of overtime to pay for my dream system looks like I've started a shopping spree here

As to which board most say crosshair is best for clocking so think thats my choice as its what im after best clocking board possible

well first of all im going to try to see if anyone at work knows anyone at gigabyte to try and get some heatsinks from the rev 4 of my board. not holding my breath but worth a shot!

There will be more no doubt.

Glad my old fx4100 is back in it's box :D

Update: been running GPU at standard clocks for the last two evenings and not a sniff of a problem so think I was pushing it too hard. Will give it another few nights though to see.

It's taking a lot of discipline whilst playing BF4 beta! My last three FRAPS benches were:

013-10-01 22:41:13 - bf4
Frames: 13779 - Time: 300000ms - Avg: 45.930 - Min: 24 - Max: 75

2013-10-01 23:03:28 - bf4
Frames: 11377 - Time: 264827ms - Avg: 42.960 - Min: 0 - Max: 71

2013-10-01 23:14:51 - bf4
Frames: 13032 - Time: 300000ms - Avg: 43.440 - Min: 24 - Max: 75

lol :D

^ It might be that with the high CPU overclock combined with the GPU overclock things were getting too hot. If your CPU is fully stable so far now it'd be worth pushing it up a bit more before you start overclocking the GPU again.
