***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I don't think they make threads sticky normally.

For stress testing I tend to do a Bluray encode to mkv using Handbrake. It stresses it in a realistic (but heavy) way and produces something useful too. Though I can fail on encodes but be stable in games, so it's relative.

That's nice to hear coming from an i7 user, normally intel fanboys spout prime 95 bla bla bla, if it ain't prime stable omg etc.

Nice to hear a balanced reasonable comment nice one teppic :)

i wouldnt say theyre all the same.. ok theres not a lot to seperate maybe the top 10, but theres still some that just perform 'better'

edit: can i be bothered to change the TIM on my northbridge tonight? meh, probably not :D

totally agree not saying every single one the ame but when it comes to the major ones ie ic diamond artic silver ect there really aint anything in it. i was just saying as he said whole strip down, i did same to be disappointed by the result :D

guys i have a tough decision last night we were talking about best board, i was all set on crosshair but now sabertooth on sale grrrr.
i want the best board for clocking but is crosshair really worth £190 when i can get sabertooth for £137.

will i be disappointed in sabertooth i dont know?

tbh, going for the most expensive 'best' board sort of defeats the point of overclocking imo.

how come? being a better built board with better vrm, which is usually the resulting factor in unstable overclocks due to heat surely you would go for a board that can handle the overclock your aiming for, there is enough factors that cause unstable clocks why not eliminate most of possible?

if you read through my posts heat has been an issue for me vrm wise what i was asking is the sabertooth gonna do any better than my current board.

i dont always think most expensive is gonna be the best far from it but the stats and results speak for themselves with the crosshair ;)

its not that, i know they have better cooling etc.. but overclocking to me was always getting the better product, cheaper ;)

im from the age of socket A and the barton core athlon 2500+ :D

Is it really worth paying for a new board that to get what...another few mhz out of the cpu? You are already at 4.8ghz!

I am at 4.9ghz prime stable with a M5A97! GPU clocked to 1200/1450...just played bf3 no problems :)

The CPU is coolec with a h100 refurbished.

Nice work!!

I may have asked this before, but do you run your H100 at full speed?

I'm gunna push mine some more once my new fans turn up tomorrow!

Yeah they are at full speed at the moment. Not bothered about the noise, but to be honest the noisiest thing in the case in the gpu.

Just noticed how similar our specs are! same card here too!

Mine is no way near my H80 when that's on full chat with the standard fans though. The GPU is noisey, but that is LOUD!

Would love to see your settings if you fancy sharing!
