***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I'm thinking that 83x0 yields have improved due to whatever AMD did to get the new 5ghz 9550's out?

Are people hitting this on air or water?

I thought you managed that on air nkata.

Yes, but it would be nice to fold at full at 55C. Encoding video can be a bit toasty as well,

Whatever I throw at it program wise, it handles, does not BSOD or lock up, but it would be good to lower temps 5C or thereabouts.

Agree it seems to be achievable. Do you class the 'water coolers' that are closed loop as water or still standard HS&air?

Great clock. When did you buy the chip?

I ordered it about 1.5 weeks back. The company I ordered from said it was in stock but I had to wait over a week before it dispatched.

Was a bit POed about the cardboard box (I've still got the tin from my first 8320) but hey, with these clocks? can't complain.

I've only just rebuilt my rig after a Gelid cable extension was wired up wrong and blew up my Asrock 990 Extreme 3. I could only get 4.2 out of that no matter what due to the cack VRMs.

I did manage to get it through 3Dmark 13 @ 4.85

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1340792?

And 3dm11

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7273457

But I had a random reboot during desktop. I was only giving it 1.42v at the time IIRC. I've got it at 4.6 now with 1.42v. I only really wanted 4.2 out of it any way as it seems to be awesome for gaming at that.

I think 4.5GHz is the best minimum to have for all round gaming performance. They should all get there even with a £25 cooler.

Blue screened whilst playing BF3 last night :(

Played for around 2 hours straight on a 64 man server, when I was killed and cut to kill cam it just decided to blue screen.

Going to download a blue screen reader and if it happens next time I will have an idea what was causing it.

On another note anyone know the safe maximum voltage for my ram at all?

The blue screen reader will tell you the cause of this BSOD, you don't need to wait for next one

Brill, will be onto it tonight.

May need to increase the NB & Ram voltage, also may add 2 more fans to the side of case or change the case fans as there isn't a great deal of air being pushed out at moment.

Would changing the memory from T2 to T3 make a difference?

Reading this the memory can go higher http://www.overclockers.com/patriot-viper-3-ddr3-2133-pv38g213c1k-8gb-ram-kit-review just wondering if I should try upping FSB and reduce the multiplier and see if this makes a much more stable overclock...or even push to 5.1ghz possible?? :D

May also look at decreasing the voltage on CPU and change LLC to Extreme, see if they makes a difference.

I wouldn't lower your memory settings really.

BF4 hits the CPU harder than pretty much any other game. You may get away with a small increase in vcore, or a slight reduction on your GPU overclock.
