***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Might be useful if the first post is edited to recommend boards, and to warn against buying the 4+1 boards.

Yeah I am up for creating a simple table to reflect CPU+Board achievements. If you want to make it more complex then we could add RAM and voltages but it's how simple you want it to be.

I'd suggest RAM brand, timings and voltage is pretty useful even though a lot depends on the IMC rather than the board. Other parameters ought to be CPU, clock, Voltage, board and revision and possibly bios as an option.

A few too many variables IMO. much depends on the skill and knowledge of the forum member as well as the abilities of the board.

Board and power phases is OK but

A Simple list

Recommended boards
Marginal minimum spec boards
Not recommended boards

this could be added to or argued about much like the cool board on Top Gear.

Up to the OP really, I don't want to distract his thread, but I could edit my Post #2 to show a cool board.

EDIT watercooling is back off the agenda, just spent my money on another phono stage and looking at a new turntable.

I may be challenged to obtain a top line board here which is almost swaying me from purchasing at this moment.

I was so impressed with the 8350 system I built for someone using the Sabertooth board I have just ordered myself an 8350 with the Formula Z board arriving tomorrow.

I will be going from a 4770k to an 8350. Mad to some but more fiddle factor for me. Been Intel for a while and think it's time to try some AMD again.

Wish me luck... :)

Martini will have a stroke if he reads this :)

I guess you're going for 5GHz? What cooler have you got?

I have a Dark Rock pro 2 at the moment and will see how it goes. Tbh I just fancy something different to play with. I'm bored of Intel and have not used AMD since the Phenom. I only play the odd game so the performance is more than enough for me.

Dark Rock pro 2 should be good for 4.8 with good ambient temps, and will bench at 5.0. Sent mine back thought as I knew only water could unlock the beast within....;D

Hi guys I will edit first post with cpu and board being used and at what clock your running

Also will add ram if you wish? Add your detail and I'll type it all up :D

Also on ram note anyone using patriot viper black mamba 1600 mhz ram and had success overclocking it? I cant get system to boot if I overclock I have upped voltage to 1.6 and loosened timings but no success

haha awesome :D

It actually felt dirty when I put an AMD CPU in my rig for the first time in years :D

They're great for fiddling with tbh.

So gratz man ! would be nice to see some rig pics too :)

Will post some pics tomorrow once built. The board has a 4 pin cpu power as well hopefully that will not be needed as I only have a single 8 pin.

I also need to find the AMD fitting kit for my cpu cooler. It's here somewhere hopefully... :D

It's not needed dude. I've not connected mine yet.

I'll probably get a molex-2nd 8 pin and connect it any way as I have a single rail PSU.
