***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Finished the re-build with the CHVFZ tonight. Superb board compared to the UD3 in build quality terms and bios features. Just the same quality as my RIVF socket 2011 board. Now installing windows, updates etc and tomorrow will try some OC. I am getting some wildly different temps with different software. Coretemp says temp is 17C idle while HWMonitor gives a variety of temps in the 20s and also one called TMPIN2 at 128C!

Not sure which software to use to monitor the 8320 now. Downloading AIDA64 to see whether that is any use.

Couple of pics:

A couple of the X79 system as it was feeling jealous:

Will take some proper pics of the AMD system when I get the chance.

Damn that is a good looking rig. How much did a water system like that set you back?

Thanks Orch. The AMD rig has a phobya xtreme 200 and a dual bay res/pump combo by XSPC. With CPU block, around £220 but I had all these parts spare.

The X79 system has an XSPC AX240, AX360, D5 pump, Koolance CPU block, EK waterblocks on the 780s. Total around £550-600. Good fun though.

Any pics of the carbide as it's the case I ordered?

Yep here's a couple more taken on the phone. I took the roof panel off as that is where the 240 rad "pull" fans are. Awesome case.
Here's the back of the case with pump/res. Loads of space for cables

Cheeky benchmark pics :D:

How are you getting on with regards to clocks Alex?

Not bad thanks Andy. Managed 5 GHz at 1.5V. Stable on IBT but temps go near 55C so not a 24/7 clock. Reluctant to go much more above 1.5V but I think this chip will do more.

Here is 4.8. Better temps:

4.6 GHz will be my 24/7 clock with memory at XMP 9-10-9-28 1866MHz. Excellent temps and similar performance to the above:

One slight problem I'm having is that when overclocked even when I re-enable C states and Cool & Quiet and turn off HPC, the CPU still gets fed the OC voltage (e.g. 1.39V for 4.6GHz). It clocks down fine when idle but can't seem to get it to drop voltage. Reluctant to use offset CPU voltage unless I have to.

55c is fine mate. You shouldn't run into problems until 68c or above. My chip reaches 70c at points but it's not rebooted or frozen (that's usually how you tell when you're at the limits on a AMD CPU).

My board gets hot though so I might have to mod a fan in there somewhere :)

62° is the limit I stick to, which is what AMD advise so there is clearly headroom above that too.

Thankfully 55° is my max whilst gaming at the moment.

Ignore the max temps in stress testing, it's pretty pointless - look at them in realistic stuff like heavy gaming (BF4 will be a good test as it hammers the CPU).

Hi,

Just converted from my trusty old Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz, ASUS Rampage Extreme x86 and GTX560Ti SLI.

My new system is :-

AMD FX8320
ASUS Sabertooth 990fx
ASUS HD7970 Direct CUII

Just managed to get them setup last night after RMA a one motherboard.

As a mild Overclocker I just upped the CPU ratio to 20 this morning and ran Prime95 for an hour or so and all was stable at 51 degrees on the CPU and 39 on the core. At Idle the CPU sits at 30 and core at 17 (If what I am reading correct.

(Using AI Suite for the Thermal CPU and Core temp for the Cores)

What kind of overclock can I get on this board/CPU combo using Corsair H50 cooler?

This is my current real life stress test. If you can do 2-3 hours on that with good temps and no problems, in my book that's fully stable.

Good chip, and good clocking to get 5@ under 1.5v!

what temps are you getting on prime?

Just over 60.c topping at 64.c after about an hour.

I have backed it off to 4.6Ghz which it manages on stock volts and remains nie and cool. I saw no difference ingame between either 4.6,4.8 or 5.0 so 4.6ghz with low volts and temps is good for me.
