***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I have definitely hit my thermal limit. Just tried going a bit more and had a nice warning come up saying "Your CPU is about to implode captain". :)

I think I will be happy with 5Ghz and who knows I might water cool at some point although I have never really been into that.

But the 8350 @ 5Ghz (or even at stock as I tested this as well to eliminate throttling due to my overclock) has trouble maintaining a constant 60Fps or over with my 7970 running 1300/1700. It happens in quite a few games but is more noticeable in BF3 & BF4 Beta.

Hmm that's a decent push on the card, wonder if the issue is not cpu but something else?

7970 is rock steady stable. It's the matrix platinum so is built like a tank.. :)

I'm going to have another crack tonight after I have fitted the system into a case as my cat was just found sat on my motherboard. :)

Yeah it seems that any out of the box cooling solution is only really good up to 5ghz. I'd pump mine full of volts at 5.2 if I could get away with it lol. It was desktop stable but froze during Cinebench.

Funny really. For about two years now there's not been much point in water cooling unless you were going for looks. Now? I'd be tempted if I could afford it haha.

No I meant motherboard or northbridge as opposed to the CPU.

Agree here. Once the novelty has worn off I think ghetto watercooling may be attempted!

Post going good guns till I read Thorn?

Glad you found it funny though!

Sorry mate :D

I paused whilst writing to ponder whether it was Thorn or Thont and couldn't be arsed to check so just guessed. Typically I picked the wrong one :D

Seeing as I might be waiting till the 14th according to the delivery company, what can I prepare regarding cabling, ties extras?

Bah...wasted 2 hours tonight. Computer kept crashing in BF3...turns out I forgot to change fan profile on gpu back from being silent and card kept overheating!!

I would check them mate make sure they're wired properly. Had a real pig of a time recently with a 24 pin that was wired incorrectly :(

Can't mention them here :)

It was a Gelid cable extension though. Just have a look over them and make sure things go where they should.

Seems like a lot of you have ordered the CHFV-Z to push your 8320/50 to the limit!

If any of you guys plan on getting a VRM waterblock for it, be careful on removing the heat-sink. I have removed two CHFV-Z heat-sinks and can say that it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Most of the screws were locked into place and required a number of tools and extra pair of hands to hold the board while i used a screw driver and a pair of pliers to remove the especially tough NB screws. The trouble was that the thread was locked and after a ton of trying to unscrew it, the screw just swiveled with the heat-sink stand off. Though i got the heatsink off, i needed to remove the stand off to fit the new block on. God, the amount of times the screwdriver almost slammed through the PCB was unnerving.
