***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Had a punt at 5ghz tonight but its not stable whats the max volts you can put through these chips?

It's not all about the voltage Dan. In fact, some of the more recent chips don't like too much voltage.

What board do you use? what are your current fsb multi settings etc?

I would like to try OCing this system using FSB as that would allow lower multiplier bumps and consequently hopefully lower volts and temps. Main thing I am unsure about is the relationship of FSB with NB and HT link frequencies. Don't want to mess up the latter. The system seems to automatically drop NB and HT link frequencies to 2200MHz when I up the multiplier to anything like 4.6, 4.8, 5.0.

Just leave the NB and HT to auto.

Managed to get 5 GHz completely stable with a mix of multi and FSB (21.5 and 233 respectively). It did need 1.51V though so I wouldn't be happy running that too often. Temps 59/60C at full load.

Here's a cinebench multithread bench. No idea if its any good but close to a 4770 at 4.4 GHz apparently. That'll do me for a CPU costing over £150 less than a 4770k

Good show mate ! breaking 800 is really hard lol.

I might give it another go soon. I'm away from home now for a week (on holiday yay :D ) but I want to break 800 now :D

It might be my cacky ram speed (1400mhz or so) so I'll need to work on tuning that.

It could be ram, Alex is at 2400 in his sig, I am only at 1850MHz but loose timings 11-11-11-28 when running at 5GHz. It took 5.04GHz to break 800 for me. 280 x 18.

Hey guys reading through and your all making strides with the overclocking :)

Sorry not much input of late and haven't finished first page on your rigs, but im working away from home for 3 weeks and it will take forever off my phone lol.

Once im back I'll get on to it.

Can't wait to carry on with my project and hit 5ghz after reading posts :( but have race cars to keep me happy till then lol

Good to see the thread growing well done guys

Don't use Prime. Or, if you do, just run it until it passes test one. That usually means you're OK. Use LinX and run 5 passes. If you get through that? it usually means I'm stable everywhere I want to be (gaming on 8 cores for example).

I disagree, prime should still the gold standard in terms of proving stability for these chips.

You might be able to boot/run some benches/light gaming. But you'd need to be sure that it won't fall over under heavy loads.

I've updated my MB bios to latest and its deleted all my OC profiles :(

I'll find time to get back to 5gz stable, but it's difficult with GTAV and new Pokemon.

Which games are dropping below 60fps?

I think there is very little chance that the 4670K will outperform an 8350 in BF4 final.

Mantle will change the Bf4 gaming regarding cpu choice, how remains to be seen. I wait until then before I change or not my 4670k to 8 core amd.

On first inspection it looks like the H100 cooler from corsair doesnt need a backplate to mount it to the sabertooth mobo?

Can anyone confirm this before I mount the mobo in the case. Thanks

It appears so. I happen to have a spare H100 bracket kit and it doesn't come with a backplate. That either means they skimped like EK did with the waterblock I bought or you can use the original.

My 2400 MHz RAM is a trident X kit that I use on my X79 rig only. The 8320 is paired with 1866MHz G Skill Ripjaws Z at 9-10-9-28 2T. Haven't played with memory yet, just using the standard XMP profile.

It comes with two 'keys' that lock onto the plastic retention mate. You use the existing back plate that comes with the board, and the plastic retention :)
