***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

A good template from a Sabertooth user would be handy so I can catch up and start benching.

What you guys using to monitor temps?

Yeah the AIOs tend to work better than air coolers. I think I know why, too. The contact plate on a Noctua NHD-14 is smaller than the surface of the 83x0 and the die itself is loaded with a dual core module in each corner.

Even the H60 couldn't hold a 4.2ghz overclock Prime stable for me.

+1 to this if its air you want I had a aksas venom medusa its contact plate was bigger than cpu and was capable of 4.8 ghz with good temps I only went water as it looks awesome :D and the noise factor

Hw monitor and aida 64 has temps Which are closer to my inline sensors so I use that on stability test there is a statistics tab with temps fan speeds and voltages ;)

Got ya new bits then m8 working away atm only pop on now and then on phone. The joyous task of building new rig lol what cpu did you get after?

I love it when I have time, but when wifes on warpath and youngster running around with case pieces and sharp objects I start stressing and getting frustrated. :p

I got:

8320 - £111
H100 - £38
Sabertooth - £133
SSD - £38
RAM - £67
Case - £113
-----------
Re-used: PSU, 2x7770 GPU's

Tell me bout it m8 little one had tim in her mouth other day and also found out that gentle typhoons hurt when there spinning at 1850 rpm fingers and fans are a no no

Good going there m8 tidy setup let the benching begin!

I have 4x noctua NF-A14 PWMs set to crank up quickly based on socket temps and 3 other good 140mm fans (probably going to be replaced with more noctuas soon). I also removed my HDD chassis for added airflow.

If I try to keep AIDA64 below 55C on the cores, that should give me a good comfort margin between the 62/63 recommended?

With all fans close to 100% prime is holding at 59/60C.

I notice my vcore jumps up to 1.428 (from 1.404) under maximum load. Is this normal? I have very high CPU LLC.

Guys, I know Prime 95 just heats these processors up, but I've found that Aida is a little easy on them.

My recommendation from the testing I've done is to use AMD overdrive's stability test, its inbetween Aida and prime for heat but I've found if it's stable in AOD then Aida is stable and I'm encoding and gaming stable too.

The reason I say this is I had Aida stable clocks that would fail AMD overdrive, so in my eyes were not stable clocks.

Just food for thought.

Nearly ready for some pics (sorry but wifi cripples me in the sticks!)

Will take a couple more tomorrow in the daylight and hopefully tidy it up a bit.

I'll try it out CoolBreeze. I generally don't have high uptime, but I run a lot of quantitative models so it is feasible some of my day-to-day usage will be quite stressful

yay, new cables in. now i really wish id got the red G.skill ram :(

still need to make a cover to go over the back above the hdd's. i could put the other hdd cage back which would be easier but.. trying to let it breathe as best i can

Thont, is that only 1 stick on RAM you have there?

Yes, I ordered 2x4Gb pretty sure but NVM as I will get same stick sometime soon to have 16Gb total.

Thont, that Sabertooth is looking magnificent .

Cool choice of case ;). You could literally get lost in there. Are you running push/pull on the H100?

Thanks mate, I loved the case so had to get it when I was pricing up the rig a week back. :D - No not running push/pull why is that a bad thing? Case temps are 23-25c.
