***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

5.4GHz with 1.55v locks in on cinebench dunno if 2 push more volts

My ram is going back (DSR) getting some better i hope so ill leave it for now and see what new ram can do.

love this setup tho just wished i went for the matrix 7970 when it was cheap but it was overkill for my gaming and 1 screen needs

I had a i5 2500k which could just do 5Ghz gave that 2 my son and got myself an i7 3820 which couldnt do 5GHz had SSD with them and with this chip im just on a 500gig HDD until xmas (SSD) BUT THIS FX chip seems so much faster on windows and games

Yes I'd agree the FX system feels really fast and responsive on windows 7/8. Games not too shabby at all either.

Panos, is the 1.55V the highest recommended by AMD? I think (will have to check) that the CHVFZ allows higher voltages than this.

Pushed alittle more

restores my faith in my 8350 :p and leads me to believe my ram and psu were defo culprits for not being able to go over 4.8ghz, my board also may play a part i believe

fiance has kindly said she will buy me crosshair for crimbo will try more overclocking then but for now 4.8ghz is good

Yes it is the maximum it allows it seems.

Btw, replaced the 2 Corsairs + 2 "no name" fans from the H100 with 4 Enermax Magma.

Now at full load with 1.48v @ 5Ghz the temp doesn't go above 50C. While idling between 5-11C.

I have the fans attached to the molex connector, so they work at 100% speed, and they are surprisingly quiet. I can hear only a hummmmmm.
Consider that now I can hear the PCS+ fans at 100% speed. Before the idling corsairs were more loud and couldn't hear the 7950.

Tomorrow I will replace the old Artic Silv 5 I had since 2010-11 (and probably is off) with brand new Artic Silv MX-4 and see how far I can push it :D

Nice to hear about the fans going well (tee-hee pun) panos!

Maybe the refurbished model came with better fans as I didn't think they were that loud?

Two meaty case fans are intake/outake - maybe that too is why the temps seemed low to you.

Now my R9-290x full watercooling build is up and running, will do some benches with it paired with my 8350 as soon as there is a patch to unlock the GPU voltage. I want to see how a 8350 handles a heavily overclocked 290x but there haven't been many 8320/50 owners that have a 290x cool enough to abuse it.

Currently my 8350 is 41 degrees at 5GHz under max load and the 290x is no more than 44 degrees (stock). Really would like to witness some amd magic when mantle hits bf4 and my kit is fully overclocked and fine tweaked.

I run open setup, so ambient temp and case airflow isn't an issue (i like my house cold also).
But the Corsair fans were loud set on performance, and sound like a hoover when at full speed.

Also given the position I have the radiator, it used to blow towards the centre of the room to my left.
However the power of the flow now is so strong that turned them to the other way blowing into the PC and exit towards the bedroom door. To my surprise the GPU temp dropped a whooping 8 degrees on idle and under full load!!!!
The air coming from the radiator is pretty freezing tbh.

So advice. Get some enermax Magma if you need good watercooling fans. They are quiet, with high pressure (1.4mm H2O) and very heafty airflow at ~18db.

Shame cannot replace the GPU fans without replacing the heatsink. I bet they will do better job in silence also.

I do run 5Ghz 24/7

However if I manage 5.3 or more, going to stick it there.

Btw does anyone knows what's the degradation (if any) rate of the FX8350 @ 1.55v?

Anything around 4.8GHz will give pretty amazing performance in most things. Obviously 5GHz has a nice feel about it regardless ;)

A small warning. Seems the 13.11b 9.2 have an issue with the AMD overdrive toolkit.

When installed, it screw my overclock. I wasn't able to revert it back even if wiped the lot and installed 13.11b8. I was able to do only bus-memory overclock. Not multiplyer for some reason.

Also the catalyst overdrive scans a CPU, without actually raising it's speed, maxing the "multiplier" while is running at 3.4Ghz only. So you end up with the result below.

Yes that is 6300!!! (took almost 1h to scan until it stopped).
No matter how much you pull the bar the CPU was stuck at ~3400. Not even 4000.

I put back 13.11b8 however Overdrive Toolkit was refusing still multi overclock, while the Catalyst overdrive was crashing my pc at 4200 :o
(even if I had 1.5v and no more than 40C).

Btw, put the Artic silver MX-4 and dropped the temp by 5C to an extend, the HWMonitor and the Core temp to register 0-3 while idling (when i was at 5Ghz, before installing the new catalyst)

Core temp had a ? next to 0 every so often.

And to put salt to the wound, my motherboard decided tonight that the "stock" voltage for the 8350 is 1.28v, so I couldn't overclock from BIOS to stable like before. (takes only +v not set value). Which has annoyed me a lot, given that has that inherited issue.

However, if have to replace the motherboard, maybe sell the cpu (month old), and get an Intel 4770K. (I know shame but).
hmm

Panos this sounds similar to what happened to me while trying to use overdrive.

Used system restore which didn't fix it. The only thing that seemed to fix it was reflashing the motherboard bios and a clean install of windows.

Sadly I won't be using catalyst overdrive again.
