***Official AMD Mantle Thread***

More vendors will be on display at CES, spanning 1080p-4K, 24”-32”, with TN/PLS/AHVA panel options.

Sweet look forward to this event. So is it safe to say no FreeSync Displays this year?

Nice one bug.:)

Mantle v DX12 will be interesting.

Can DX negate Mantle?

Or will Mantle be strong enough?

AMD, this is your opportunity to get the absolute best out of your api and give DX12 a hard run for the honours.:)

I think i read in it somewhere: According to Futuremark DX12 and Mantle performance is identical.

Interesting times ahead indeed.

It's not supposed to be a Vs. Mantle was born by EA/Dice due to DX not giving them the low level access they required. If DX12 fits a similar bill, then why the need for Mantle ?

Direct X is bound to be the standard in the years to come but that is why AMD is working with Microsoft to help develop Direct X 12 in some ways. Mantle will probably continue to run with an additional 5-10% performance boost in some graphic techniques over DX 12 due to AMD creating some APIs to gain even more performance. This would be up to the game developers to implement which may not be worth it due to the amount of work that needs to be done to gain 5% performance for a small majority of the market they are selling to.

AMD approached various devs, AMD/Frostbite/Oxide(Dan Baker and Tim Kipp )worked in partnership to develop Mantle.

If I'm still running AMD, I will be able to use both when DX12(if it's supported on my OS) arrives, I'll compare them 1 v 1 on a game by game basis, I'll use the api that produces the best output/playability.

Choice is the key.

They are ?, I thought that was nvidia. You got a link to that ?

The need for Mantle is simple. Directx 12 wasn't even thought about when dice and amd was making mantle, dx12 wasn't even going to be low level api.

It was all down to amd showing them, this is what you can do with your api.

Mantle releases and it already gives devs a starting point to learn the new api in time for dx12... Mantle CAN be looked at like a dev tool towards making games for dx12.
The porting to and from is very fast and efficient, Mantle can also go to other platforms, this can help Linux for example grow even bigger..

Mantle is the start of all this, and when you soon running a dx12 game and seeing the benefit a low level api brings you only have amd and dice to thank.

So you take 2 bottles into the shower ? I just wash and go. :D

Its not one or the other, AMD, Nvidia and probably Intel too, all work with Microsoft on DX12.

Of course they work with ALL the devs :o

Speaking to a crowd of about 300 developers and press, Anuj Gosalia, development manager of DirectX at Microsoft, described DX12 as the joint effort of hardware vendors, game developers and his team. Our work with Microsoft on DirectX 12 began more than four years ago with discussions about reducing resource overhead. For the past year, NVIDIA has been working closely with the DirectX team to deliver a working design and implementation of DX12 at GDC. - See more at: http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2014/03/20/directx-12/#sthash.M8yCSROM.dpuf

Won't be long now and we can all enjoy less gaming overheads caused by an old slow API like DX11/10/9
