*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

I have contacted Antec twice for new parts for my P182, first was a dust filter that had a broken clip, I bought the case 2nd hand for £50 so it came broken and they shipped me a nice new one. They also shipped me a latch for the dust filter door for free.

2nd time was when the door itself snapped off for the dust filter and they sent me a free door :)

oh I snapped my dust filter door.

It still clips in fine though as the top hindge works, just annoying. No big deal, least I know if it breaks more I can get it fixed.

My case is nowhere near as tidy as the ones in the here. My first build but I thought it was fairly tidy. Heatsink is on the wrong way but temps are fine and to lazy to swap it. Got about 2/3 cables behind and then some cables on the front but they're all cable tied together so don't looks to bad.

Honesty is normally the best policy!

However this is no place for a debate on morals! :o

Well..they shouldn't make the front usb ports so fragile.

An easy mistake to happen and the port went. IMO not very good quality.

Even if I didn't tell them the whole story - so what - I make my own moral judgements thank you. :)

I would want a free replacement regardless.

Great thread for anyone considering this case and some loverly builds shown here, very impressive. :)

I was wondering If someone could answer a question I have as I'm ready to get this on order but unsure of the following:

Will this house my 2x 8800 GTS & a x-fi?

Looking at the pics here it looks like a tight squeeze & there will likely be additional fans required but if someone with actual knowledge of working with this case could help me, it would be great!

Keep the pics comming, they are stunning! :)

I would say yes. You might need to route the cables that come from the PSU compartment round the back of the mobo board, but should fit for sure.

Should be no problem. My GTS fits even with the additional fan on the wind tunnel and the lower slot should be no different.

My new build above. I have a 1200 Slipstream as exhaust and 800 Slipstream on intake and CPU. With all fans on low the PC is near silent :D

I also have removed the top fan and blocked the flow (so air is drawn from the front).

I have also removed the lower fan because it's not needed in you block the vents around the PSU (the case vents) so it draws it's air from the front passing over the hard drives.

Has anyone here modded the front, lower drive cage or chassis so as to allow another fan to be mounted behind the grill/filter?

Or more importantly, are there any instructions going on how to do it ;)

SW.

I just thought it would be nice to have some cool air being blasted over the drives I have down there? The next nearest fan is in the middle chamber, near the psu.

Air flow is pulled from the front by the fan in the middle. They could have made it so they could have the fan in the front.. but they didn't

Enable SMART in your BIOS and then use Speedfan to check your HDD temps. Mine seem to be OK without a fan!! (but with the modifications I noted earlier).

The loudest part in my system is now a 750GB HDD :) I am not even talking about seek noise but rotational!!

I would think it prob draws enough air through as it is personally, but you can never have neough fans I suppose :P

I think Antec made the right choice by putting the lower fan in the middle, it pulls air in from the front very nicely which keeps the hard drives cool however because the fan is central it also blasts a nice stream of cool air onto the PSU which keeps that running cool and quiet.

All my PSU's in the past has expelled warm air when situated at the top of the case, obviously they are sucking up the warm air from the hot components below, I think this in turn does decrease the lifespan of the PSU?

Just moving the PSU to the bottom has a big effect on its thermals, then creating a seperate thermal zone also has a positive effect on the PSU, lastly having that 120mm fan purring away right next to it really does keep the PSU very cool indeed, full load or not.

In short I don't think a mod is necessary for the lower fan, it just works!

Well if your really keen/bored then there is no harm in it although I can think of a few more interesting mods that you could do to the P182. . . .

Maybe cutting away the metal fan grills would be a better move for allowing better airflow?

Thats a standard one mate and I whole heartily agree with you.

Cuts noise.

Improves cooling

Over half a year on from P182 case purchase, two weeks ago I decided to spend an hour on a cable tidy mission, but first viewed this thread to see what can and can't be done with cables etc. I'm pleased with results. :)

Below is how it started out six months ago with my old system fans and one manic mess of cables...

quick question,
Im liking this case, but does it allow the front door to close if I buy a Creative XFI with the front cd-bay controls? Theres a few nobs which stick out on this.
