wunkley we have very similar setups other than you having a 4870 X2 which I think does not make as much difference as it should, as the cpu appears to be the bottleneck.

I do not have a problem with the fact that I cannot run the game on the highest settings. I do however take issue with the fact that turning everything down makes little or no difference (3fps). The engine appears to have limited scaling capability which I think is big mistake for any game no matter the niche market.

Exactly. I found under vista that changing settings, resolution etc made hardly any difference at all. Under xp it definitely does. eg if I run at 100% fillrate (1920x1200) it does run faster than 133%, but 133% is still very playable!
 
is it me or as you get further and further into the game it gets laggier, regardless of where you are?.. It's either that or by lowering some of the settings ive actually decreased performance somehow..
 
Sounds like memory, the further you load the game the more likely its going to use all video memory then system then page to disk


Use the OSD on riva and it'll show whats free

Guessing your on the Manhattan mission? Everyone struggled running that mission, seems really CPU limited a lot of AI running, hopefully with optimizations itll get better! It does get better again after that one though.
 
I'm getting 25-35fps average with everthing on very high,view distance 2400 and res at 1680x1050,would i benefit a lot by getting a Q9550 or just oc the e8400 more?

Hi,
I have re-run the tests again under windows 7 WITH the SAME build of drivers as XP , the first runs were done under an earlier win 7 driver.

xp sp3 186.18drivers arma ver 1.02 = 5425.71
win7 186.18drivers arma ver 1.02 = 5198

Not that much in it really , tests run 4 times with first result being discarded.
An average of the other 3 is what is posted

1 small niggle
Uninstall drivers , forces you to reboot
upon reboot the bugger re-installs drivers without asking so ( hate you gates)
Then had to reboot again and install the drivers "over the top" so to speak

-linwig- those settings seem to work really well, thanks...

overall im quite impressed with the performance, especially since its a new release, and im not on the newest CCC either .. also my processor is only a e2180 @ 2.9 , so overall im quite impressed...

Its funny as when your on a hill over looking a forest and one of your team is in there in armour, all you can see is trees falling over, its like the smoke monster from lost tbh.
 
Ok i haven't read through all this thread but im struggling. Ive done the 1st couple of the tutorials and thought id jump into the campaign. Ive done the 1st bit where you have to use the laser to blow up the house and tanks. Now i have to move through some village, i keep dieing, can you control the other members of the squad? they seem to run off on there own then i struggle to get healed. Any tips for a n00b would be welcome. :)
 
After reading all your frame rates... I am beginning to think if my crossfire is actually working.

I get 35FPS, with low drops. Got everything max, my version doesn't have fillrate which is weird. It is just interface resolution and 3d resolution (which I think is fill rate as it has ratings in percentages next to resolutions).

Shouldn't I be getting a lot more fps with 2 cards?

If you see down bottom left faces, they are in your control

You would be F1 key then 1st guy in your group would be F2 and so on

Press eg: F2 then number buttons (can't rem offhand) but just try and you will see orders etc that you can give them, also off top of my head ...

Press F key for a man, then aim at an area and it will give a range readout, click and that man will go to that point

The key is the Funcion keys, once you figure it out it becomes second nature

Few keys for you, K=compass double tap k to keep comapss showing, 1 k tab and hold to see it

V to clamber over fences etc

T you can swap groups etc

Middle mouse button to call ammo artillery etc if you are equiped with them

F cycles your weapons

Just thought i'd throw them in the mix for you
