*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

The AI is so bad(squad especially) that it can end your mission over and over, without fault of your own(the campaign is terrible for for this)

Thats one of the things which annoyed me on one of the missions, one of my squad died and it did that annoying thing that sometimes occurs in games where I failed the mission because one of my squad died. Big deal ! Its war! People die, the loss of one soldier hardly designates a mission failure for goodness sake. I still had everyone else left, more than enough people to continue and succeed in my objectives, acceptable losses, but nooooo....

I'm hoping it was just that particular mission though.

nah afaik this gay squad follows us round all missions, and are completely unreplaceable... heck i only just found out you could play as you squad members... Also is it me or is it impossible to spot enemies in forested areas.. id say about 1/5 helicoper dismounts one of my men injures themselves, and also the last man never seems to want to get in the helicopter.. yeh i think its a very glitchy game.... i'm swinging from loving it to not so loving it...

yea thats the message i get, also vista x64, its happened like 8 times in the space of 2 hours, its highly annoying, anyone know how to resolve this yet?

From another forum:

The patch didn't do much for me..but I have Vista64.
I can only play @1024x768 with sli on...fps is about the same.
The game is incredibly clear @2560x1600 sli/on...but within 10 mins it will crash (ArmA has stopped working).
OFP has no problems at any res.

Seems like our boat is filling up fast :)

Well my Windows 7 x64 is nearly done, might install it tonight or tomorrow. If that doesn't fix it I will just wait as I said before and play it with proper patches out after a few weeks/months. Rather wait and play it with patches than bore myself of it due to crashes.

Just been playing some multiplayer tonight - I thought you could play the campaign on co-op, but can't find any way of doing it?

Other than that...the game is incredibly frustrating. Two of us playing "Clear the town" based objectives, so 4 others are AI with us. They get themselves killed within minutes, and trying to "see" through the foliage is impossible, especially as the AI can see through it and pick you off.

In the open, going prone just gets you a face full of grass, so you kneel to get a decent view, at which point you're too exposed and get shot in the face.

Town combat is easier - the fact the AI just run around in the open makes it a turkey shoot, but its just a matter of getting overwhelmed by being extremely outnumbered that usually finishes you off.

"Big" multiplayer games are good, but just lack organisation. Too many people off doing their own thing - it really needs some proper teamspeak, squad based organisation to work properly.

getting horrible fps on an early mission called Red Harvest - 1-2 then jumps up to 27 or so, very laggy yet the scenarios play really smooth. Anyone else find this?

to do campaign coop, just select single player and then campaign and on one of the windows next you will see a button labelled 'host'. you can do it from there. Weird that it is in the single player menu though.

Really was feeling out MP tonight and I think the concepts are brilliant. once you capture a base or bunker you can reinforce with MG bunkers and AT fixed positions. I know that later you can construct tanks and other vehicles. I think that this is awesome - like first person CoH (which I love) once I got used to the construction menu we were reinforcing all our positions before moving up. Like you say though - would need coordination, however I still think people are finding their way around the game at the moment, so give it time and people will get to know the ebb and flow of the game.

Really good stuff though.:D

Anyone know how to put the Aircraft Carrier onto a map via the editor?

... I want to practice some (crash) landings onto the carrier.

Im finding that the training island, runs way better than the campaign area as theres less going on. Play the campaign and see how that runs too.

Yeah, i got a bit of a shock in the campaign, what was fine in Basic Training crippled me in campaign, everything now set at high , 3D res at 100%

FRAPS benchmark:
2009-06-22 23:24:52 - arma2
Frames: 2446 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 40.766 - Min: 34 - Max: 44

Happy at that for now, i expect things will improve a little with patches and GFX driver updates though.

This game is taking some serious getting to grips with.. I'm far too used to COD4 & BF2

I tried playing the set Scenarios from the main menu but my teammates keep getting killed, retarded AI?

The Armoury is fun, I love the little challenges you get set with each item you choose :D

I'll have to try the multiplayer mode soon :)
