*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

I've done that mission three times now and it seems to be triggered after you search some of the marked areas including information given to you by locals. Not sure how many areas you need to search, but what I'd recommend is that you just use a Humvee and start searching the closest position you get from the officer at the Elektozavodsk base (three red crosses marked on your map). Also search Vyshnoye and any towns on route to the positions given to; sometimes you'll see them in the process of getting attacked or there are locals who you can talk to for information.

My first two attempts I got the message but couldn't find Lopotev or Bardak, but on the last attempt I actually got Bardak and what an awesome scene it was. I don't want to spoil it for everyone, but it involved jacking a car and going on fairly lengthy chase.

From what I've read I don't think you can actually find Lopotev, but I may be wrong.

Cheers m8, but that's the problem - I've done all that. Spoke to both intel guys, got the background info from the Chedaki intel guy on Lopotev and Bardack, went to the three red crossed marked areas, found 3 parts of information/intel. Went to Novy Sobor and Vyshnoye as well as over to the East coast to Solnichniy, spoke to locals there who said to check the quarry. Went there and found one single enemy troop, killed him.

As I was travelling about the map between Novy Sobor and Vyshnoye, a message poped up saying I had captured Bardack, without lifting a finger. It just popped up and announced I had done that???.

South of Novy Sobor I went to the farmhouse that the locals tell you about and sure enough there is a farmer standing outside. But you run up to him and there is no way to enter any dialogue with him. Searched the castle up on the hill near there and found some intel/info.

Now I'm just running around or driving up in the hills at a complete loss as what to do next. There's always the "End mission" cheat I suppose. :(

It's almost as if some sort of "Mission trigger" that is meant to kick in, hasn't.

Just completed the first mission and its awesome :) Seems to run a lot smoother than Arma1? for me anyway, maybe it's the extra RAM i've recently put in.

Hmm, I did nowhere near as much as you did, but still got the message, didn't even get the evidence.

Did you get any auto saves after visiting the marked areas? I seemed to get an autosave whenever I approached an area where I was supposed to do something.

Also when you went to the quarry, did your character say anything after killing the soldier? Reason I ask is because I killed three soldiers there, two from a distance (as I approached the area) and the third one was hiding near the small buliding in the quarry. After killing the last one, your character says something about being confused as to why nothing is here and that the team should move on.

Nah, got nothing like that. After I cleared the last of the areas marked on the map with the red crosses, there was a piece of evidence if I recall correctly, in the command tent thing at the top of the hill. It was sometime shortly after that that the message telling me I had captured Bardack appeared.

Looking like its a bit of a bugfest, this mission. I'm probably going to have to start from the very beginning again.

And it's just turned up, now to see just how bad it is on my old Amd 4800x2.

Wouldn't worry too much, it runs fine on my Opteron 180, with an 8800GTX and 2Gb RAM. Everything on "very high" at 1280x1024, nice and smooth.

Good game too, I'm enjoying it.

Time will tell, I got to within 30secs of installing and my pc Crashed and have to start over.

As long as I can use the editor to create some scripts and get my brain working again it's not a big deal, I'm planning on a new rig in September if I can hold out.

so i just got this game. Installed it over my lunch break and did a quick 5-10 min scenario. To me it seemed a little blurry, i went into options first made sure the res and everything was correct. Set everything to high (not v high) and had a lil blast.

1920 x 1200, E6850 @3.7, 8800Ultra and 2Gb Corsair DDR3 1333mhz, WinXp

seemed fine not much fps drop (although it wasnt hectic) i just found if i wanted to see someone at like 200 meters away i had to scope in with right mouse click.

Is this intended? or am i missing a setting somewhere for draw distance, tbh i quickly skipped over the options but didnt see a draw distance option, just thought id get some opinions so i can jump in a blast staright away upon my return home from work

A person at 200m in this game is not going to look sharp or detailed.

I experimented by comparing Win 7 and XP x64 last night, as I noticed my friends machine running WinXP was actually running smoother than mine despite his rig being much lower spec.
If you don't want to read all below then to summarise, XP runs this game MUCH smoother.

I was running a few week old Win7 x64 build 7127 and fresh XP x64 SP2. After comparing I then made a completely fresh install of Win7 x64 build 7229 to make sure it wasn't the clean install that was making the difference rather than the OS.

My specs:
Core i7 @ 4.50Ghz
6GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
2x ATi Radeon HD 4890 1GB in crossfire
etc etc

Settings: All at highest except view distance 4000, fillrate (render) 100%.
I used the exact same settings and drivers on all installs.

Both the old and fresh Win 7 installations averaged around 35fps and both suffered from stutter.
XP x64 averaged around 50fps and was as smooth as silk. Looks like I'm going to have to keep an XP install just for this game.

EDIT: It seems I'm not the only one that has noticed this. According to this post on the BIS forums, Win 7 or vista combined with an i7 processor is the problem, specifically hyperthreading.

Thats interesting L33, im using vista 64bit, but with a C2D not an i7, again getting pretty poor performance and crashes, just wish i could install xp64 bit, i only have an old 32bit and most of my software is 64bit :(

Yeah I too have done some comparisons between windows 7 and xp

For the record I have HT off
here is my post detailing why HT buggers up gaming ( fine for number crunching , not so fine for games)
http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1321607&postcount=97

I saw that win7 32bit was a little slower than xp32bit , but not by much

It isnt that HT being on is a problem , it just doesnt help out a multi threaded game too much....

Note: Running a 32bit app on a 64bit OS can actually have worse results than running it under 32bit OS natively.

Alright guys, ive bought this game and am liking it so far but when i try to create a User profile it wont let my click in the player name box to edit anything. Ive done a quick search and found this, Which is exactly my problem but no fix anyone know ??

Thanks for the info - the more I look into it, the more it seems HT is the cause of all my problems :( lots of people saying that HT is the reason for most of the random crashes, and the 'could not commit' when trying to save (this is the one that nearly caused me to throw my monitor out of the window a few times!). Gonna go disable HT now and test in Win 7, will report back!

Have you tried running the game as administrator or with UAC disabled? Sounds like a permissions problem to me.

have you altered the location of the My Documents directory? I did this before so I cold have a partition for all my documents and I found that some games and apps couldnt then find the My Documents folder until I reset it to default

How did you get on with the server config ?
I managed to get the performance of my dedicated on my Q6600 running pretty good now
I've just done the server configs - thanks for sending them over much appreciated :) I've also just emailed you the admin password.
I did have to change the main config as the server was not appearing in the master list, had to change reportingIP="armedass.master.gamespy.com"; to arma2.master.gamespy.com.
Also is there much benefit to changing the bandwidth file as the server this is running on has a 100mbit connection.
Thanks again :)

Also just disabled HT, seemed smoother but still not as slick as XP x64, and it crashed to desktop after a few minutes :(

Well the very first thing I tried to do is messed up.

I selected option2 riffle range and it's bugged. He starts to ask if I want to shoot some targets and while he's asking they start to pup up.

If I wait until he's asked me it fails me.
If I start to shoot while he's talking it fails me.

He then asks if I want to try again and without me doing anything I reply with ok and of we go again being failed.

First 5mins hasn't made a great impression.
