*****Official Ashes thread*****

If you're going to troll, try to make it less obvious.

Root and Bell are both more than capable of batting out the day.

I'm not trolling at all, I'm just not convinced by England and the Aussies are starting to turn the screw.

Will make an interesting Ashes should the Aussies win (bar rain)

Every post that guy makes is miserable, negative, hateful.. think he's just a miserable sod myself. Same in the F1 threads, if his lover-boy Hamilton doesn't win or Vettel gets to the first corner, you can guarantee his post will be "Vettel lucky default win again gg" or something similar.

We need rain to save ourselves now :(

Don't bring your Vettel love into this cricket thread :D

There's been dodgy decisions either way but the rub of the green has been their way.

I wouldn't say it has gone their way, but it hasn't gone against them either, it has been pretty even, it is just that the more blatant decisions have gone against the aussies, and that it what people are remembering. England have had plenty of bad decisions too, they have just been closer.

We don't need the rain to win. :p

Another inspection 14:45.

You wont win;)...it will either be a draw or an Aussie win if they can get back onto the field. But at this moment, its pretty much a draw and Ashes remain with England.

Onto the series down under which should be interesting...

We don't need the rain to win. :p

But you need it to draw.

Anyway, at this rate there's no chance you could win the game even if you wanted to. Looks like it's going to keep raining, so I'll head for bed.

The rain has denied us a really interesting day of cricket. Had we got a full compliment of overs then a result either way really could have been possible.

I despair at England's approach to days such as today though, massively lacking in ambition. I know conditions are tough but scoring at 1.5/over just invites pressure.

Whilst that's true every source even up to kick-off today was saying it wasn't going to be a full compliment.

No point rushing if what you need to do is occupy a crease. Faced with a 'lose or draw' scenario who picks lose?

What they needed to be doing if they had a lot of overs to face was play conservatively until post lunch and take stock of where you are. Everyone getting out early on gets you nothing.

I agreed with the Sky pundits the first priority has to be to retain the Ashes looks like we have achieved that.

England played by far the better cricket in the first 2 tests, Cook saw the weather forecast and the state of the wicket so why not play for the draw to retain the Ashes ?

I don't get our mentality sometimes, moan if we lose and moan if we win baffles me to be honest.

Stupid rain killed what was an entertaining game :(

Ashes retained but in all honesty, Aussies really didnt do themselves any favours in the first 2 tests with some pathetically inept batting and bowling.

Congrats to England...no point in watching the rest of the series...Aussies cant win the Ashes but hopefully will be a better series down under this xmas.

If Aussies had managed to win this game I think England would have found it quite difficult to get the momentum back. The bowlers just didn't look too sharp for England this test apart from Swann.
