*****Official Ashes thread*****

All of the dismissals bar Root have been soft:(...especially Trott and KP who were looking good.

actually, seeing a reply, that statement is a bit unfair on Cook as well

It's bad enough England being so negative defending a test but to win the next toss and then opt to bat like this is abysmal. Felt like we were playing for a draw from the first ball!

That's just ridiculous!

:p

Cook was going very well until being well beaten by a bit of a freak. Cook staying at the crease whilst everyone else makes runs with him is exactly what you want, and for a time it looked like it would work, with first Trott and then KP scoring well, and scoring quickly.....Of course they both threw their wickets away, which wasn't in the plan, but England haven't been particularly negative.

England's shot selection in the last 2 tests has been shocking!

Well, despite an iffy England performance, I've had an absolute cracking day at the cricket. Well done to Durham County Cricket club - organisation was fantastic and great to see a 1st class Test in the North East.

Must admit, after lunch I thought England were going to push on to a big total on what seemed to be a good wicket. I was sitting side on so always difficult to tell, but I didn't reallt see the pitch doing much. Couple of wickewts given away cheaply.

That said, it's Test cricket and there's another 4 days to come. Great stuff.

Pretty entertaining day and good to see the Aussies still have some pride, looks like Evangelion will wake up to a nice surprise which will make a change from recent times :p

That said you never know how good the first innings total is until the other side has batted, can see Swann having some fun there. Either way though looks like we should have a result from this Test.

9 for 238, what a nice surprise! :D

It'll be an even nicer surprise if Australia scores higher. :p
