*****Official Ashes thread*****

You have to say fair play to the Aussie coach (the name escapes me) he seems like a decent bloke always up for banter on TV first to congratulate all the England team, sport could do with more people like him IMO

Darren Lehmann??...yeh he seems to be a decent bloke. Feel kinda sorry for him, took over with less than 2 weeks before the start of the series and dumped in at the deep end.

Will be interesting to see how he does when they play the Ashes down under as he will have more time with the squad to tinker around with. But the Aussies really need to find some world class bowlers if they want to win back the Ashes and batters as well:p

So chuffed for them, great to see warne eating his words.
Always better to win the ashes rather than retain them.

Woot woot

It's been a funny series in some ways, England are 3-0 up but I can't say they've been as dominant as they probably should have been bar Lords!

Half of the batsmen haven't performed all series, if Cook, Trott, Prior and Bairstow had been in anything like decent form god knows how easy they would have won! It's taken Bell and the bowlers to bail them out too often really.

Still we've won the Ashes 3-0 so can't complain :p but I think our top order needs to buck it's ideas up before the winter.

Well I didn't expect that at 168-2 :p

Strange series with England playing poor the majority of the time, luckily the Aussies have been worse. December will be a different series.

I agree about bringing Compton in, and Root will come good. They seem to rate Bairstow so it is probably worth keeping him around, though I haven't been impressed tbh. It took a long time for Bell to establish himself as well, and Bairstow has hardly played many tests...let's just hope he doesn't turn out like Ravi!

Don't forget Taylor too, very good little player(and I mean really little!)

Also, there will probably be a place for Bairstow for when Prior retires as WK.

I would rest Anderson and bench a couple of the batsmen for the last test. Series is won but its been a close series. The poor use of drs by the aus and their batting has helped England too. 3rd ashes in row, I grew up with opposite.

Less than 120 runs from victory with 7 wickets in hand, and our batsmen just chucked it away yet again.

Honestly, I cannot make sense of this team.

I reckon that the ECB are trying to avoid the problem Australia seem to be suffering from at the moment of having too many key players retire in a short space of time. Bairstow might not be doing much right now but he's getting experience of Test cricket and the England setup so that when Prior retires, he's better prepared for it then he would otherwise be.

As Pighardia says, Bell took an age to establish himself. Now we have to admit that had it not been for Bell we wouldn't have a 3-0 lead over Australia. There were times many years ago when Anderson came on to bowl that I would walk away because I knew we'd leak runs. Now he's one of the finest bowlers we've ever had.

I can see Compton coming back in but if Bairstow is safe from the drop because he's being prepared for the future who goes? Cook is safe. Trott is safe. KP is safe. Bell is currently a legend. Prior won't go. It doesn't help that we've no Tests against Bangladesh say before the return Ashes series down under. It'd have been great to have a short two Test series against Bangladesh to give Root, Bairstow and perhaps even Compton another chance to show us what they can do.

Congrats for showing your face this time :) In all seriousness asI said earlier fair play to Darren Lehmann seems like a true aussie competitive, good sense of humour and always willing recognize a good team. Seems like a decent chap :)

I admire Clarke's boundless optimism but do you think he actually believes what he says? You have to feel home truths are sometimes more valuable but I think he can't really say what he thinks about the team because his own performances have been so poor.
