*****Official Ashes thread*****

Wow, what a day and what an experience. So glad we went for day 4 tickets rather than day 3 in the end. Best days test cricket I'll ever have the privilege of witnessing in the flesh.

The atmosphere in the ground was incredible, everyone cheering like mad when the clouds passed at the end, the sun coming out and the umpires allowing Broad back on to win it.

Epic!

Tremlett without a doubt. I really rate Onions, but I think the selectors will be thinking about the squad to go over there later on in the year, and Onions is unlikely to be in that squad imo. They see Tremlett and Finn for the future more than Onions tbh.

I would say another spinner would be quite likely, but Monty has has his own troubles atm;), so I don't know who else they could use

I would have liked to have seen Onions play but I think his own injury problems mean England won't risk him. And considering the Oval is Tremlett's home ground, I'd be quite surprised if they didn't play him.

Oh and Monty, eh? Silly boy!

I'd like to see them drop Bairstow and bring in Tremlett and Finn so line up:

Root
Cook
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Prior
Broad
Swann
Tremlett
Finn
Anderson

No reason to risk over-exerting Broad or Anderson in the last game of a won series so the extra quick will take some pressure off plus the batsman really have no excuse now the series is won and the Aussies are just playing to save face, both Cook and Trott are due big scores too.

What are peoples thoughts on the new call ups for Chris Woakes and Simon Kerrigan?
Not sure really. Woakes has been in the OD squad hasn't he? Surprised Jade Dernbach hasn't been called up for debut. Guess he's considered a OD/T20 player at the moment and not Test quality, yet.

Monty has gone for a while.
That's Monty "been released by Sussex" Panesar? :p

Essex have signed him up as their Spinner is out of the game for a long period, good to see someone pick him up when he is down. Would love to see him flourish, he could be great in the reverse ashes over there.

England: Cook, Root, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Prior, Woakes, Broad, Swann, Kerrigan, Anderson.

Australia: Rogers, Warner, Watson, Clarke, Smith, Haddin, Faulkner, Starc, Siddle, Harris, Lyon.

See him around town all the time. He has got a bit of a rep;)
Surprises me really. Apparently he's had a marriage breakup and other personal issues.

So Woakes is the seamer and Kerrigan is the spinner? Two spinners and two bowling debuts. Quite an interesting move from England.

I thought Lehmann had conducted himself pretty well until this...it's just not cricket.

"I hope the Australian public give it to him right from the word go for the whole [Australian] summer," he said.
More from Lehmann's interview
Triple M presenter: "The big news is that idiot Broad has finally come out and admitted what we knew, that it came off the centre. He's admitted he's done it on the eve of the Test after they've won the Test series, is he going to cop a bit of action when he comes to the crease?"

Lehmann: "He's been copping it all series, mate. I expect it will continue for a long time yet and I would hope the public get stuck into him when he gets out to Australia. I hope he whinges a lot."

Presenter: "I can't wait. He won't want to be fielding on the third man boundary, I reckon."

Lehmann: "The whole of Australia can help there, which I'm looking forward to"
"And I hope he cries and goes home. I don't advocate walking, but when you hit it to first slip it's pretty hard."

Thoughts?
