**Official Asus A8N-SLI Premium Thread**

Even when I installed the NVRAID drivers (both of them from the "makedisk" app on the CD) it still wouldn't allow to continue with installation. I had to disable NVRAID completely and use the nForce 4 slots. Odd

I'm quite puzzled by this. With NVRAID on, of course you are going to be using the nForce 4 slots. But by the sounds of it, you are trying to setup a single drive, not a RAID, so you need NVRAID off. With NVRAID off, the Windows installation will see the drive attached to the nForce 4 ports without the need for additional drivers.

Hi,
Did you ever get around the problem of the ATX12v cable being too short ? Did you use the P8 to P4+P4 cable ? I'm in the same situation, just come to plug in my new Aerocool Turbine Power 550W psu and have found the 4pin connector wont reach the ATX12v socket. Anyone else help me please ?
Dave

There are extension leads available for these cables but if you cant find any then you could just cut the cable about 4cm from the connector end and then use junction boxes and add in some electrical wire and then use junction boxes at the end of this to re-attach the connector. Use proper electrical wire such as wire that plugs normally attach to rather than fan connector wire.

If you ever have to warranty your psu then normally you can remove the wire from the inside of the connector and so re-attach the connector to the same stretch of wire coming out of you psu.

Would be much easier if you could just find an extension lead wire for it though

Scroll down to the Feature Tool, the top program is a Diagnostic tool. You would need to get the diagnostic tool if you were to ever RMA the drive as they ask you to check the drive with it before you send it back.

I am wondering now why I don't have the Removeable Drive tab. The only thing that I can think of that might mean mine isn't shown as Removeable is due to the fact that I have 2 partitions on the drive. I guess if it were made removeable for C: then it would screw up the other partition.

Just had a look in my safely remove hardware and the only items in there are my card readers and my hard drives but none of my usb items. I have two harddrives (seagate barracudas) and both show even though one has 2 partitions on it and the other one is just a single partition. They are both plugged into the nvidia sata ports (not raid)

When I say USB devices, I mean USB memory sticks/mp3 players etc. My Creative N200 mp3 player shows up as a removeable device when it's plugged in.

As for the HDD, I've checked under Device Manager and the HDD properties have it running in Optimize for performance mode (mentions the Safely Remove Hardware tab) with Enable write caching on disk ticked. I didn't set the HDD to SATA II mode until a few months after I installed XP. Not a big deal for me at the moment as I won't be needing to remove this drive any time soon. I will be buying a 2nd HDD for extra storage at a later date so perhaps it will work with that.

I am having trouble installing the x2 amd drivers with this board.
After installing them and rebooting, just after the WinXP boot screen I get a BSOD with the following message...
Page fault in a non paged area

Anyone know what this means
(thank god for system restore :) )

hi everyone new to the thread, just ordered one of these badboys from ocuk.

it will be running ATI X800 pcie card and 2x1gig crucial 3200 ram, no RAID.

confused about what drivers i need to install??? i am reading a lot of BSOD error messages...

going to stick the 009 BIOS on first of all via DOS.

then install windows, planning on installing:
nVidia Chipset(CK804) driver version V6.65 for Windows XP(WHQL) first. are these just the standard NFORCE 4 drivers for all the chipset/audio/lan. will i need to install anything else after this becuase i see a lot of AUDIO files on the list of driver files.

any advice would be great.

I thought the "Safely Remove Hardware" tab was to do with USB devices? I've got the Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 in SATA 2 II mode attached to the nVidia SATA and I don't get that tab.

You are aware that the Hitachi Deskstar's are set to SATA and not SATA II out of the box? You have to download the Feature Tool to turn SATA II mode on.

when using this tool to turn SATA II on my hitachi drive do i need to enable spectrum clocking? or do i leave this disabled.

I don't know if I enabled that or not. All I know is I enabled the option to turn on SATA II.

i had a "livechat" with a hitachi representative via their website, here was the outcome for those who wonder about spectrum clocking:

Paul: Thank you for using Hitachi GST's On-line Chat. How may I help you today?
ross: hi paul i have a question about Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 NCQ 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
Paul: Certainly, ask away!
ross: i am planning on using your Feature Tool (v1.99) to enable the 3 gig transfer instead of the 1.5gig
ross: i just need to know should i enable Spread Spectrum Clocking, i couldn't find the answer in the pdf file
ross: the motherboard fully support sata 3 gig transfer
Paul: SSC is used to reduce electromagnetic interference in highly noisy environments, typically used in multidrive situations.
Paul: For a system with one or two HDDs it is not necessary
ross: thanks paul. i will have 3 other drives powered off of IDE channel however
ross: should i still leave it off?
Paul: It only affects SATA drives, IDE drives have no influence

Under load my cpu hits 40 and idles at 30. This is with xp120 and vantec stealth fan. Its got 1.55v but asus probe reports 1.584v. Can these temps be true or does this board under report the temps

has anyone found any improvements or more stability by running chipset @ 1.6v and htt @ 1.25v. Have tried it and havent managed to increase o/c but temps didnt seem to get any higher.

Please be gentle guys, newbe here,i havent got a clue when it comes to computers, but a can sure build a mean motorbike.
Anyway,
What i am after is someone/or many who could step me through the overclocking process on my newly bought computer system.
Heres the spec,
AMD 4800+D/CORE,
A8N SLI PREMIUM,
CORSAIR DDR400 PC3200 PRO 2GIG,
WinFast PX7800GTX TDH(gefoce7800gtx)256bit,256mb,430mhz/400mhz,
HIPER TYPE R PSU 580W,
TSUNAMI CASE(Black)
4x 200gb seagate s-ata(raid 0 setup according to last owner)
XP64
Think thats it all.
So can someone guide me through overclocking it please,i mean how do i get the windows up for a start, that 2-2-3-4- thing:) i keep seeing the screen shots.
Thanks in advance. IAN

right,What does this mean poeple,
memory timing= 3-3-3-8
command rate = 2T
CPU speed= 2411,x12,200mhz,
L1 cache=code 64kb(parity),data 64kb(EEC),
L2 cache=1024(on-die,eec,fullspeed),
GPU Clock=275mhz,memory clock=598mhz,
TEMPS=M/B=37c,CPU=50c,GPU=40c,GPU ambient=37c,
FANS,CPU=2910RPM,CHASSIS=2058RPM,GPU=2199RPM..
All info from everest home edition program.

memory timings: its to do with the number of checks i think that the memory does. You want them as low as possible. Run memtest to check it after you make changes.
Command rate: this is also to do with the memory. There is a massive performance hit running it at 2t. Set it to 1t.
CPU Speed: 2411 is the speed in mhz or 2.4ghz. x12 is the multiplier. 200 is the fsb and fsb x multi = speed
l1 and l2 are just specs of your chip. 1mb L2 cache is good to have though

GPU clock is your graphics. Looks like this is a dodgy reading maybe. 275 is low and 598 is high. Try rivatuner and see what that reports.
Your temps are fine for graphics but seem very high for cpu. Might be that your chip just runs hot. What is the vcore voltage (computer then overclock in everest). Mine idles at 30 and it has max volts (1.55v) going through it on same board.
Fans are just their speed and thats fine.

First you need to check your cpu temp and its voltage.
Read the o/c guides
Then put memory on 1t and 2.5,4,4,8 and run memtest test 8
As you only have value ram by the sounds of it id put the divider onto 333 and then start raising the fsb. Keep running prime tests to check stability.

First off thanks for the info/help,but still havent got a clue how t0 and where to go to adjust the settings for o/clocking.
Sorry, but cant find vcore in everest under overclock, just get cpu prop's+speed+cache, mobo prop's,chipset props, spd memory modules, bios prop's,graphics proc. prop's,cant see vcore volts anywhere?
If you mean cpu core then thats 1.36v or gpu Vcc is 3.37v.
IAN
P.S. Just d/loaded rivatuner from a site and it says extract, but when i do nothing happens + no windows open, just got a rivatuner box/symbol on my desktop, thats what ive clicked on about 6 times and just keeps doing the same thing.?
EDIT--Found it, and running it now.
Where do i look for the info on this program, also i ran 3dmark 5 last night and got score of 3818 and CPU score of 5630,CPUT1=2.6FPS,CPU2=5.4FPS,GT1=35.2FPS,GT2=23.4FPS,GT3=37.1FPS.
What can you tell me from this information about how good/crap my system is running.
